This is a compilation of select discoursesfrom the book ‘The Hindu speaks on Religion’ Published by M/s Kasturi and Sons Ltd.Chennai - 2. We remain grateful to the Editor-in-Chief of the Hindu for granting permissionto publish these articles in the form of a book. The inspiration for this compilation goesback to 1970. At a meeting of important RSSworkers held at Perambur near Chennai thethen Chief of RSS Sri Guruji Golwalkar wastrying to explain the audience the global missionof India offering an alternative pattern of lifebased on the four fold values of life (i.e. Dharma,Artha, Kama and Moksha). While elaboratingthe point he asked how many in the audienceread The Hindu news paper regularly. Many raised their hands with enthusiasm. He furtherasked as to how many go through the religiouscolumn appearing in the same highlighting vitalaspects of dharmic life. Not many replied inthe affirmative. He then expressed hisappreciation for the service rendered by thepaper for a noble cause and urged the audienceto go through the column without fail.Bearing this in mind a compilation of selectdiscourses was made during the birthcentenary year of Shri Guruji (2005-06) and itis now brought in the form of a book. The bookis published by the Sri Cultural andEducational Foundation, a voluntary body functioning in memory of Sri R.Srinivasan
