BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINING
PROGRAMME

Organised by
BARAK HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION COMMITTEE
with the aid from
National Human Rights Commission
on 25 October, 2009
at Gandhi Bhavan, Silchar, Assam
BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS TRAINING PROGRAMME

Title: One Day Basic Human Rights

Training Programme
Aim: To familiarize the participants
with human rights concepts and
mechanisms and to make them
enabled to recognise events of
violations and file complaint for
remedies
Background:
We all are from a society where there is uninterrupted
prevalence of corruption, nepotism and bribery leading
to apathy and negligence towards legally mandated
duties on the one hand and overstepping of authorities,
on the other hand, by the government officials resulting
in violations of human rights and harassment of
individuals at offices subjecting them to huge mental,
financial and physical losses, persecution of women,
children, scheduled tribes and castes, minorities and
other weaker sections and ultimately devastating
individual well being as well as collective welfare of the
society;
Background:
And where there is also uninterrupted
prevalence of negligence, excesses and
highhandedness of the police and other
security forces leading to non-registration of
cases, registration of false cases, illegal
detention, torture in custody and sometimes
even death in custody leading further to
travesty of justice and rule of law resulting in
lack of trust in the justice administration
system ultimately driving the people to seek
revenge by violence;
