Safety in Nuclear Medicine
Although exposure to radioactivity in very large dose can beharmful, the radioactivity in radiopharmaceuticals is carefullyselected by the nuclear medicine physician to be safe. Likeany medicine, they are prepared with great care before theyare used. The quantity of the radiopharmaceutical part is verysmall, generally, 1/10th of millionth of an ounce. The risk of a reaction is 2-3 incidents for 100,000 injection, over 50% of which are rashes.
