First Song

Like the river in the highlands I flow through

Highland river ringed by mountains, skies so blue;
Like the bald eagles winging
Like the grasses softly singing
Like the highland river running, I flow through…

When I was young, all was easy every day

So few worries, cares or heartaches in the way
Like the bald eagles winging
Like the grasses softly singing
Like the highland river running, every day…

Then you came and all around me life burst out

I could run and jump and cry and laugh and shout
Like the bald eagles winging
Like the grasses softly singing
Like the highland river running, na, na, na…

When you left though sunshine vanished, all was dark

And the pains and heartaches gripped my fevered heart
Now only bald eagles winging,
Only grasses softly singing
Just the highland river running, na, na, na..

Now I’m older and I’m wiser through and through

And know more of what is false and what is true,
Like the bald eagles winging,
Like the grasses softly singing
Like the highland river running, running blue….
