In the Twentieth Century, five young Native American dancers from different Indian tribes learned dance in Oklahoma and went on to be counted among the greatest international ballerinas of their generation. These five women -- Maria and Marjorie Tallchief, Yvonne Chouteau, Rosella Hightower, and Moscelyne Larkin -- are memorialized in bronze by Native American sculptor Gary Henson in the the Vintage Garden of the Tulsa Historical Society. His work is called "Five Moons" which is also the title of this Haiku sequence.
