Your Help is NEEDED!

Dear friends,

The 2010 Haiti earthquake was a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake, with an epicenter near
the town of Léogâne, approximately 16 miles west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital. The earthquake
th th
occurred at 16:53 local time on Tuesday, 12 of January 2010. By the 24 of January, at least 52
aftershocks measuring 4.5 or greater had been recorded. An estimated three million people were affected
by the quake; the Haitian Government reported that an estimated 230,000 people had died, 300,000 had
been injured and 1,000,000 left homeless. They also estimated that 250,000 residences and 30,000
commercial buildings had collapsed or were severely damaged.

Several of my New England Chapel friends were in Haiti at the time of the earthquake helping with a
humanitarian aid mission. Fortunately, all of the Mission Group members survived the hellish encounter.
However, many Haitian people were not so lucky.

After hearing the news of the wide spread devastation and death that had riddled the small island
country of Haiti, I felt compelled to help in any way I could. I felt it was time to apply myself to something
more than just my daily ordinary routines. The most I could offer was my skills and experience as an
th
electrician and construction worker. So, on March 17 (the day of the Saints) I set off for my first Mission
Trip ever.

Nervous and overwhelmed I landed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, only to be confronted by unusually hot sun
and humid weather, even though it was mid March. As I ventured west towards the village of Léogâne
with the Mission Group, I couldn’t completely comprehend what my eyes were seeing. Sights so
frightening, it numbs the senses; buildings completely leveled, women and children sleeping in sewer
pipes, whole roadways ripped and twisted like paper, and many more atrocious visuals. My mission
began.

We set right to work. I was given a team of ten workers to start laying ground for new electrical systems
in a Mission E4 compound in the Village of Léogâne. We worked diligently and hard, day in and day out,
to begin reconstruction on a school, new orphanage, supply depot, store and medical clinic. Never have I
been so proud of such a small contribution.

I wish to continue contributing my skills and time in the reconstruction. I plan on heading back to Haiti
th
on October 16 to help with the continued efforts of Mission E4 and New England Chapel in bringing
much needed relief to the fine people of Léogâne.

I need your help to raise the funds necessary to get me there. Any small or large monetary contribution
is welcome. I ask you; PLEASE help me help the people of Haiti. Your contribution will have a direct
influence on many people’s lives, not lost in the mix of big relief organization or Government agency.

Thank you,

Glenn Jones
