Why
is Christianity the
ONLY
religion that is not allowed to be mentioned or proclaimedin public or on college and school campuses?
Why
are Christian symbols and mementos not allowed?
Why
is carrying your Bible and openly displaying it not allowed in some places? I think we all know the answers to these questions—we are living in the end time and the Bibleteaches us that, “in the last days men will not endure sound doctrine.” (II Timothy 4:3)
CONSIDER THIS:
King James Version
1. Thou shalt have no othergods before me.2. Thou shalt not take unto theeany graven image.3. Thou shalt not take the nameof the Lord in vain.4. Remember the Sabbath tokeep it Holy.5. Honor thy father and mother.6. Thou shalt not kill.7. Thou shalt not commitadultery.8. Thou shalt not steal.9. Thou shalt not bear falsewitness.10. Thou Shalt not covet.
Modern Version
1. You shall have no other godsbefore me.2. You shall not make for yourself any idol.3. You shall not use or repeat thename of the Lord in vain.4. Remember the Sabbath day, keepit holy.5. Regard, treat with honor. dueobedience, and courtesy, yourfather and mother.6. You shall not kill.7. You shall not commit adultery.8. You shall not steal.9. You shall not bear false witness.10. Both versions have the same message –
and it is still the same message as it was when it wasgiven. If we as Christians believe them to be God’s message as a guide for people’s life, whydo we not take a stand and let people know what we believe? We say that we do not want to impose our beliefs on people and that they have a right to believewhat they want to. This is true! But, we have an obligation to be witnesses for Christ, to presentthe Gospel of Jesus Christ and tell the world that without Jesus Christ in their life as theirpersonal Savior, they are doomed for eternity, separated from God. What is it going to take forwe as Christians to understand our call to the “Great Commission” that was given to us by Jesushimself?

…I rescued the poor who cried for help…Job 29:12
As the chill begins to return to the air here in Anchorage,I want to share an ever-increasing burden with you, oursupporters; it has to do with our ministry to “the Least, theLast, the Lost” at a time of serious opposition from manysides. This opposition takes on some recurring themes:1) Some people say, “Not in my neighborhood.”2) Some people say, “Your services are not helping to endhomelessness.”I hear these all too often. My response is two-fold. First letme say that our program for the homeless and addicted men& women are designed to end homelessness for those weserve. We introduce them to Christ and provide concretetools that are proven to improve their lives. But what do wedo with those who refuse our
“NewLife”
programs? Do westop feeding and sheltering the ‘chronic homeless’?My answer comes from a personal experience in Portland,Oregon when I was Chaplain in the men’s program atthe mission. In the winter of 2002 an intoxicated NativeAmerican, an elderly man with very little English speakingability came to us, in from the cold, for a place to spend thenight. He was a ‘chronic homeless’ man and because he wasa bit dif
cult to deal with the staff didn’t let him stay. The next morning I heard that he had frozen to death undera bridge in the night. I had a long talk with the Lord thatday, trying to sort out what had happened. My heartfeltconclusion is this: we will always offer food and shelter tothe “poor who cry for help” without regard to ‘why’ theyneed help. All men & women are worthy to have food andshelter regardless of the reason for their circumstance. As we head back into the cold, I especially want to
thankyou for allowing us to continue to serve ‘the Least, theLast, the Lost’ of our community.

When Answers Aren’t Enough
You have faced the mountains of desperation. You have climbed, You have fought,You have won.But this valley that lies coldly before you,Has a shadow that you cannot overcome. When answers aren’t enoughThere is Jesus. He is more than just an answer to your prayers,And your heart will
nd a safe and peaceful refuge. When answers aren’t enough
He is there.
And just when you thought you had it all together. You knew every verse to get you through. But this time all the sorrow,Broke more than just your heartAnd reciting all of those verses.Just want do.Instead of asking, Why did it happen?Think of where it can lead you to from here. And as your pain is slowing easing,You can
nd a greater reason,To live your life triumphant through the tears. When answers aren’t enoughThere is Jesus. He is more than just an answer to you prayers,And your heart will
nd a safe and peaceful refuge. When answers aren’t enough
He is there.

...I mean anywhere in the world. Who would provide for theemergency, temporary help offered to those in need, with anopportunity to hear the Gospel message and an invitation toaccept Jesus Christ as their Savior?I know there are other agencies around that provide help. They are to be commended and we need them. However, theChristian Rescue Mission goes
unnoticed
, for the most part,by local authorities and the community. While we are notlooking for praises from men, we are here to serve God inthis capacity, but it would be extremely encouraging if thosein places of authority would recognize the help the ChristianRescue Mission provides for the city. Again, what if we werenot here—who would take care of the many people thatdepend on the Gospel Rescue Mission, supported by faithfuldonors like those of you that are reading this newsletter?
There needs to be a Public Awareness Campaign
tomake known to the cities that Missions serve just howmuch good they really do
without any
nancial help fromthe municipalities, state or federal government.
RescueMissions operate very cost effectively on meager budgets, giving a helping hand up to those in need. I have talked tomany people in Anchorage and they do not even know weare here, what we do or that we have the best most ef
cientDrug and Alcohol Program anywhere. On the national level the Executive Director, Rev. SteveBurger, of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, and44 representatives from Christian Gospel Rescue Missionsacross the country met with elected of
cials and their staff for the eighth straight year to make the nation aware of allof the many good things done by Christian Rescue Missions.Rev. Burger said, “It was a thrilling experience to hold handswith these people and pray for the
Rescue
movement.” Iwonder what kind of reception this Christian committeewould have received in Anchorage.Rev. Burger further commented, “It is exhilarating to standwith national leaders and testify how God is changing lives(the national leaders know that people need a Christianenvironment and Christ in their life for change to take placein their life) They are thrilled with stories of transformedlives. If that were all our Public Awareness Programaccomplished, it would still be a great asset. The power of atransformed life and the power of prayer are awesome.”All of the nation’s Christian Gospel Rescue Missionsincluding the Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission have agreat opportunity to help people in need with essentialsof life and more, like education through our ComputerLearning Center. It provides job readiness training as wellas instructions in basic life skills individuals need to survive. All of this and an introduction to Jesus Christ by presentingthe Gospel through the Chapel service and the life style of our staff. If we can just get a Public Awareness Campaign started andspread throughout the city, then, perhaps people will knowwhat we do.
Since you know what we do, will you pleasehelp us with this campaign by telling some of the goodnews of RESCUE?
