Bar Codes May 11, 2011
Business who are mailing pre-sorted standard mailthrough a bulk mail point have some changes to preparefor in 2011. Recent regulations required mailers toinclude a bar code for automation processing in order toqualify for discounted mailing rates on large presortedmailings.According to a letter dated August 18, 2010, if youhaven't already come on board with Intelligent MailServices (IMb
tm
) you will need to do so beginning May 11,2011 to be eligible for automation discounts on lettter-size and flat-size mail pieces.Additionally, the PLANET Code barcode, used withConfirm service for mail tracking, will be retired in May 2011. To receive Confirm service after this date, you'llneed to use the Intelligent Mail barcode.Questions on the conversion should be addressed to your Business Mail Entry Supervisor, District MailpiecesDesign Analyst and Business Mail Manager for guidanceas you transition. The USPS will hold weekly webinars titled Migrating IMbduring September 2010.
