Steam is one of the most importantengineering works. According toA.S.M.E. code a steam generatingunit i.e. boiler is defined asfollows:A combination of apparatus forproducing furnishing or recoveringheat together with the apparatusfor transferring the heat so madeavailable to water, which could beheated and vaporized to steamform.REQUIREMENT OF A GOOD BOILERA good boiler should be able tofulfill the under noted conditions:It should be capable of generating the maximum quality of steam at required pressure andtemperature and quality withminimum fuel combustion.It should be light in weight andshould not occupy much space.
