What's Job Satisfaction

 Job satisfaction describes how content an


individual is with his or her job.

 Job satisfaction has been defined as a


pleasurable emotional state resulting from the
appraisal of one’s job, an affective reaction to
one’s job and an attitude towards one’s job.
CASE :1
 John Bishop an investment banker for city group`s
global energy team in Newyork.
 A recent workday of John consisted of heading to
office for conference at 6:00 P.M. He left office at
1.30 A.M and was on plane at the same morning
9.00 AM for presentation at Houston. After
presentation he returned to NY same day and was
at office at 7.00 P.M working 3 additional hours.
 He says he might be little skewed to workaholic,
but working 90 to 100 hrs a week is usual.
Case: 2
 Irene Tse head of Govt bond trading division at
Goldman Sachs.
 She states that she wakes up frequently during
night to check the global market status. She
also states “There are days when you can make
a lot and other days where you lose so much
you’re stunned by what you have done.”
 Her average work week is 80 hours
CASE:3
 Tony Kurtz MD at capital alliance partners he
often travels to exotic locations ,covering
300000 miles per yr often sleeping on planes
and dealing with jet lag. He is not the only one
he knows with such a hectic schedule
 His girlfriend Avery Baker SR VP Of
Marketing for Tommy Hilfiger logs around
400000 miles a year.
 He says its not easy to maintain relationship
like this.
Case:4
 David Clark VP of global marketing for MTV his
job consists of often travelling (200000 miles per yr)
round the globe and to keep up with global music.
 If he is not travelling his day is like waking at 6:30
A.M and immediately responding to numerous
msg accumulated over night. And responding to
another 500 at office. If he is lucky he gets to spend
an hour with his son.
 He states “There are many people who would love
to have this job they are knocking on the door all
the time “ so that’s motivating.
