PepsiCo to set up low-cost foods unit
 The new entity To be called ‘foods value’ business

 Creating its own low-cost foods business and increasing


manufacturing capacities across its plants
 Would focus on low-cost fortified snacks like biscuits or snacks
priced at Rs 2-3 a pack, which PepsiCo would target at rural
consumers
 To combat Balaji’s growing share in Gujarat, Frito-Lay is
aggressively upping its capacity in the state.
Britannia to invest Rs 100 cr in 2 new
plants
 Britannia Industries (BIL) will invest around Rs 100 crore
to set up a plant each in Bihar and Orissa to scale up
production to cater to the growing market
 Britannia, with a 31% market share, is lagging behind
Parle Industries, which has gained clear volume
leadership in the Rs 10,000-crore Indian biscuit market in
recent times
 It had launched brands like Pure Magic and Chocs Decor
as competition to chocolates by leveraging festival gift
packs, creating a value for the brand
COCA-COLA launches VIS to woo
people to CWG
 Coca-Cola India, the official beverage partner of the Commonwealth Games,
launched its new Visual Identity System (VIS) and logo for the October 3-14 Delhi
extravaganza.
 Conceptualised on the platform of "Go Dilli, Let Sports Win", the new VIS encourages
people to participate and support the XIX Commonwealth Games and ensure the
triumph of sports and sportsman spirit over all else.
 Coca-Cola has been associated with mega sporting events in its efforts to promote
healthy, active living and promoting social cohesiveness.
 The Visual Identity system has been developed for Coca-Cola India by 'Iconologic', a
brand design firm in the USA.
 The new visual identity has been inspired by the Chakra in Commonwealth Games
Logo, the cultural symbol of celebration - 'Ambi or Paisley' and the architecture of
Lotus temple in Delhi.
HC gives relief to Godrej, bars soap brand
"Gandhi No 1
 The Bombay High Court has restrained Gandhi Soaps and Detergents
Industries from manufacturing and selling their toilet soap brand
"Gandhi No 1" as it bears a striking resemblance to rival soap brand
"Godrej No 1".
 Gandhi Soaps and Detergents Industries has brought in similar
product with identical get up and colour scheme so as to cash on the
reputation of the established mark of Godrej Consumer Products Ltd
 The court issued notice to Himachal Pradesh-based Gandhi Soaps
and Detergents Industries to show cause as to why the reliefs claimed
in the notice of motion moved by Godrej should not be granted.

Marico
 Marico Industries is looking at buying out more companies and
brands in the Asian and African regions as part of its expansion
plan
 Marico has made three global acquisitions
 In January, the company bought Malaysian personal care brand
Code 10 from FMCG giant Colgate-Palmolive for an undisclosed
sum.
 It had also bought South African over-the-counter health care
brand 'Ingwe' last month.
 Marico acquired Singapore-based personal care firm Derma RX
in May, and will launch the brand in India by October
Reckitt sues 'copycat' Bharti, Wal-Mart
JV

Reckitt Benckiser India, the maker of Dettol antiseptic


soap and Cherry Blossom shoe polish, has served a
legal notice to Bharti Walmart demanding that the
cash-and-carry joint company withdraw its Great
Value toilet cleaner, as it infringes upon the ‘bottle
design and cap’ of Reckitt’s Harpic brand, the
domestic market leader in this category

in largest 10 brands
 Officer's Choice Whisky, the single brand from the Kishore Chhabria-headed Allied Blenders
and Distillers (ABD), is now the tenth-largest selling spirit brand in the world, with sales
crossing 12 million cases
 The other two Indian brands already in the list are Bagpiper and McDowell No.1, the flagship
brands of Vijay Mallya-led United Spirits Ltd (USL)
 Johnnie Walker is ranked eighth with 14.5 million cases, McDowell No.1 with 13.5 million
cases and Officer's Choice with 12 million cases occupy the ninth and tenth slot, respectively.
Leading the list of world's largest ten brands is the 63 million-case Jinro from South Korea
 The millionaire brand list is dominated by India with six whisky brands figuring in the list of
world's top 10—Bagpiper, McDowell No.1, Officer's Choice, Original Choice, Royal Stag and
Old Tavern. Johnnie Walker, Jack Daniel's, Ballentine's and Jim Beam are the other brands in
the list.
