EXPLICITDEFINITIONS

WARNING HIGH VOLTAGE! NEVER
at-tach an antenna or internal antenna connector duringtransmission. This may result in an electrical shock orburn.

connect the transceiver toan AC outlet directly. This may pose a fire hazard orresult in an electric shock.

mount the transceivermain unit overhead. The weight of the unit is approxi-mately 4.7kg (10lb 6oz), but its apparent weight willincrease several fold due to wave shocks or vibration.The unit must be mounted on a flat hard surface only.

connect a power source of more than15.64V DC, such as a 24 V battery. This connectioncould cause a fire or ruin the transceiver.

NEVER
place the transceiver where normal oper-ation of the ship or vehicle may be hindered or where itcould cause bodily injury.

let metal, wire or other objects touch anyinternal part or connectors on the rear panel of thetransceiver. This may result in an electric shock.

expose the transceiver to rain, snow orany liquids.
DO NOT
use chemical agents such as benzine or al-cohol when cleaning, as they can damage the trans-ceiver surface.During maritime mobile operation,

the trans-ceiver and microphone
as far away
as possible (atleast 1m; 3ft) from the magnetic navigation
compass
to prevent erroneous indications.
Use
Icom microphones only (supplied). Other manu-facturer’s microphones have different pin assignments,and connection to the IC-M802 may damage the trans-ceiver.
AVOID
using or placing the transceiver in areas withtemperatures below –20°C (–4°F) or above +55°C(+131°F).
AVOID
placing the transceiver in excessively dusty en-vironments or in direct sunlight.
AVOID
placing the transceiver against walls or puttinganything on top of the transceiver. This will obstructheat dissipation.Place the unit in a secure place to avoid inadvertentuse by children.BE CAREFUL! The heatsink will become hot when op-erating the transceiver continuously for long periods.

When your ship requires assistance, contact otherships and the Coast Guard by sending a distress callusing digital selective calling on 2187.5kHz.
IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
When immediate help is needed

Push and hold [DISTRESS] for 5sec. until theshort beeps become one long beep, to send thedistress call.

After 2182kHz is automatically selected (after anacknowledgement call is received), push and holdthe PTTswitch on the microphone and send thefollowing information.1. “MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY.”2. “THIS IS. . . . . . . . . ” (name of ship)3. “LOCATED AT. . . . ” (ship’s position)4. Give the reason for the distress call.5. Explain what assistance you need.6. Give additional information:•Ship type•Ship length•Ship color•Number of people on-board

Push [DSC] to select DSC watch mode, if neces-sary.

] to select DSC menu, rotate [CH]to select “All ships” then push [ENT].

Follow the guidance displayed on the LCD (bottomline), to set up the category, traffic frequency andcalling frequency with [CH], [ENT] and keypad.

Push and hold [CANCEL/CALL] for 1sec. until theshort beeps become one long beep.

After an acknowledgement call is received, trans-mit the appropriate information using voice.
•DSC equipped ships may monitor your transmission.
