What is CCTV?
CCTV was first used in the 1950s and hassince become an essential element in anyprofessional security system.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) is atelevision system which operates on a‘closed loop’basis. Unlike broadcasttelevision, which is available to anyone witha suitable receiver, CCTV pictures are onlyavailable to those directly connected to theloop.
With today’s network security, ‘NetworkVideo’is an expansion of CCTV beyondanalog circuitry to data networks using acommon interface such as TCP/IP.

Technical Note --In mostinstallations, the loop is aphysical link –a cable whichcarries the picture from thecamera to the viewer. With veryfew exceptions, the picturesare transmitted as a compositevideo signal at 75ohms, 1 voltpeak-to-peak, generally RG59or RG6.Where high resolution (>400TVlines) is required, some cameraequipment offers a Y/C facilitywhere the luminance signal (Y)and the chrominance (C) isdivided.Over long distances, forexample in Town Centersystems or transportationsystems, fiber optictransmission is popular. Wherethis option is too expensive,ISDN and DSL offers a cost-effective alternative for event-driven surveillance systems.
