engurusan dan pemuliharaan alam sekltar di Malaysia dilaksanakan dalam konteks pembangunan Iestari yang bertunggakkan pembangunan ekonomi pembangunan sosial dan perlindungan alam sekitar; Pembangunan lestari tidak dapat dicapai sekiranya salah satu daripada tunggak inl dikompromikan. Oleh ltu, Dasar Alam Sekitar Negara Ini telah diwujudkan untuk mengambilkira pengabungan ketiga-tiga tunggak ini,

Susufan daripada ini, Dasar Alam Sekttar Negara adalah bertujuan unruk meneruskan kemajuan ekonomi, sosial dan budaya serta peningkatan kualiti hidup l-akr'.u: Malaysia menerusi kesejahteraan alam sekitar dan pemhangunan lestari.

Pada intisarinya, Dasar ini akan memberi panduan kepada agensl kerajaan persekuruan dan negeri, sektor industri, masyarakat tempatan dan lain-lain stakeholder dalam memastikan alam sekttar negara berslh, selamar, sihat dan produktif.

Dalam melaksanakan Dasar ini, traregi-strategi telah digubal bagi memastikan usaha-usaha yang diambil oleh semua plhak . yang ted i bat dlbuat secara bersepadu. lni akan memantap ran usaha kita mencapai pernbangunan lestari dengan cara yang paling optimn m,

The numagement and conservation 0/ the emnronmeru in Malaysia is implemented within the context of sustainable development which embodtes tbe three pillars, economic deuelopment, sociai deuelopmens and environmental protection. SUsJaJnable delJe.lopment cannot be achieved if anyone of these pmars is compromised. Hence, the National Policy on the Environment has been developed 10 take into account the mcorporauo« of these three piIJars.

Arising from tbis, the National Policy on the Environment ainzs at continued economic, social, and cultural progress of A1a.laysia and enhancement of the quality of life 0/ its people, through environmentally sowu:! and sustainable development.

In essence. this Policy will preside guidance to all federal and state agenctes;. industrial sector, IOCBl cmnfflunity and other stakeoo,lders in ensuring t.hat tbe environment is clean, saje~ bealtbyand productive.

In .impieme-nting tbis Policy, strategies have been formulated to ensure tbat tbe efforts taeen by all stakeholders are carried out in an integrated manner. This would strengthen our effort to ochievl? rustainable detJewp.ment In the most optimal manner.

THE WAY FORWARD MALAYSIA'S GREEN STR.4TEGlES

Tbe National Policy on tbe Environment seeks to integrate enVirO'flrnentaJ considerations into development activities and in all related decision-making processes, to foster long-term economic gmwth and human development and to protect and enhance the environment. It complements and enhances the environmental dim ens ion of other existing national policies, such as those on forestry and industry and takes cognizance of insemattonal conventions on global concerns.
