Parent News Update: Parents our hiring for 2018-2019 is complete. However
please remember that staffing may always change throughout the summer. We
are happy to announce our newest additions to the DMC Staff: Mr. Matthew
Fisher (fifth grade), Mr. O’Keeya Singleton (fourth grade), Ms. Crystal
Barnewolt (third grade), and Mrs. Jackie Gibson (kindergarten).
Teacher Request for 2018-2019: Since I have been the Principal at DMC, I have always given parents the opportunity to
request a teacher for their child. This practice will continue for the next school year. Balancing classes and accommodating
students with different needs is our top priority and often requests cannot be granted for that reason. A teacher request DOES
NOT GUARANTEE PLACEMENT. Welcome back letters with class placement will be mailed the end of June and
administration DOES NOT meet with parents who were not granted their request.
If you would like to request a teacher for your child(ren) next year please send in a written request to front office or email me
(Mrs. Imboden – my email is at the top of this newsletter and on the website) with at least 2 choices (with priority numbered).
All letters of request will be accepted until April 27th. No letters will be accepted after April 27th. We are not responsible
for students not turning in request letters.
Nevada Moves Day: Nevada Moves Day at DMC was a huge success! We were so pleased to have the Nevada Highway
Patrol come to our campus and visit with our students (and so many squad vehicles too)! Our DMC Leadership Students
handed out raffle tickets to all students who were “caught” riding or walking to school and playing on the playground. We
raffled a girl’s and boy’s bike off in each grade level and in our special education department (14 bikes in all) to all students
who turned in a ticket! Congratulations to our students!
Transitional Academic Night Date Changed: On May 3rd, we will be having a “Moving Up Academic Night.” This is an
evening in which you attend the next grade’s presentation to hear about curriculum, supplies, and expectations. We will be
distributing curriculum guides some textbooks (which are no longer adopted by CCSD), and providing a question/answer time
for parents. So…your kindergarten student would attend the first grade presentation, first graders attend the second grade
presentation…and so on. We are reaching out to the sixth grade teachers at Greenspun to see if they’re available to come that
evening and provide a presentation in the MP Room for our exiting 5th graders.
Career Week Wax Museum: Thank you to our Counselor, Ms. Deihl who organizes Career Week and meets with all the
classes for their career projects. The week turned out great and the Wax Museum was outstanding! Thank you to the parents
and students for the hard work that went into created such detailed presentations!
SBAC Parent Participation: We are asking that you write positive notes to your child each day they are testing. We have
paired each intermediate class up with a primary class to be their “cheerleaders” and give the class positive praise notes as
well. We are implementing several attendance incentives to minimize make-ups and raffling off bikes for attendance.
We also have school-wide quiet hours from 9:30-11:30 and adjust lunches and
specialists schedules to give our students the optimal testing environment. Once a
student has begun a test, they cannot leave school and come back into the building
to pick up where they left off (all sections once started must be finished).
*These tests do not affect your child’s reportcard grades or next year’s class placement and scores do not come
out until July or August.
