Despite the last minute change of location and many shifts in preparation, the
Fallfest Sock Hop had a blow-out attendance. The June 26th event, held at the
VFW was sponsored by WTTR and drew people from Baltimore and as far away
as Homestead, FL.
A huge thank you must go the Fallfest staff and volunteers, the VFW and our
partner, WTTR for all their hard work to make this evening such a success.
This was proof that we all enjoy reminiscing the “good ole days” and enjoying
friendships. The poodle skirts, scarves and saddle oxford shoes were a
testament to that. The four non-profit organizations selected to benefit from this
year’s Fallfest were represented, along with their invited guests. They are Access
Carroll, Carroll County Youth Services Bureau, the Taneytown Lions Club and
the Westminster Lions Club.
Look forward to the next major event to benefit Fallfest to be held at Bud’s at
Silver Run August 16.

A special thank you to Lori Graham, Jalna Brown and the VFW
for finding a new location for the dance!

Fallfest Gets New Headquarters:

The David S. Babylon Building was
made possible by the kindness and
generosity of the Babylon Family,
Program Open Space, the City of
Westminster and Westminster
Fallfest Inc. The Ribbon cutting and
Grand Opening ceremony, held on
5/20/10, included many local
dignitaries, including Mayor Kevin
Utz along with Mrs. Evelyn Babylon
and other members of the Babylon
family. The new community building
will serve Westminster Optimist, Westminster Fallfest Inc., and many other non-
profit organizations throughout the year. The building was open for the public to
tour following the ribbon cutting.
Fallfest previous office space was a dilapidated trailer that was falling apart and
the Optimist could no longer operate a concession stand under Health Dept.
standards using the old structure. Staff and volunteers are looking forward to
using this wonderful new facility to its fullest extent at this year’s Fallfest.

Employee of the Year Award

Westminster Fallfest Inc.
Board Member receives the
Maryland Municipal League
Employee of the Year Award
Jennifer Mellor received the Employee of
the Year award on June 28th at the
Maryland Municipal League’s annual
conference in Ocean City Maryland.
Jennifer was nominated by Marge Wolf,
City Administrator, for her dedication and commitment to the citizens of
Westminster as the Program Director in the Recreation and Parks Department.
According to Ms Wolf, “You only have to work with Jennifer 10 minutes to know
she’s an exceptional employee and well deserving of this award.”
Among her many achievements, she made this past Holiday parade and tree
lighting very special by reviving Santa’s Treat, an event that was cancelled in
1999. During this past winter’s snow, she helped shovel snow for six hours with
the Public Works Dept. She has effectively developed the springtime Flower and
Jazz Festival into a 150 vendor, day long entertainment party in the Main Street
business area covering two blocks. She has served as Event Chair,
Entertainment Coordinator and Parade Chair for the Westminster Fallfest raising
over $35,000 to donate to charity. As she will tell you, “I love this job.”
Congratulations Jennifer!
