This quarter has seen lots of exciting changefor Synergy Magazine.A major development is we have decided tomake available a digital edition of the SynergyCompendium—
Free of charge
. This is avail-able for download from the Synergy Website. Each issue is released at the same time as theprint edition and It includes rights for anyreader to print a copy for their own personaluse and pass a copy to their friends (on a noncommercial basis.)We have tried to make the digital edition asvisually appealing as possible with lots of extracontent, photographs, screen shots and extramaterials (including expanded reviews) but in aformat that can be quickly downloaded andeasily read even on slower computers. Wehope we have struck the right balance and wel-come feedback on the digital edition.I do not believe that digital magazines shouldtake hours to load into your pdf reader andthink it is ridiculous to pack a digital magazinewith full colour backgrounds which make read-ing text difficult. We want Synergy to be user friendly !We do recommend the latest Adobe AcrobatReader (version 9) and suggest you downloadit to make the most of the look and feel of theSynergy Compendium Digital Edition. As part of the development of Synergy wechanged our byline to “exploring the bounda-ries of Cinema and Literature” to better reflectthe focus of Synergy Magazine. While we certainly love cult and horror films, itis also important to give coverage to independ-ent and world cinema and the many other gen-res of film which come across our desks andhence the magazine has expanded its horizonsto cover these as well.We have also included reviews of key documen-taries. In the this issue we have focused on thework of Richard Dawkins since we feel he has alot of important things to say about the dangersof superstition and prejudice. Our view has always been that the place for fan-tasy and imagination is within the novel and cin-ema not within belief systems. There is more than enough room to explore theboundaries of the psyche in literature and filmwithout being convinced such things are empiri-cally real and that life should be ruled by them.Sad to say the lives of so many fundamentaliststhese days look like bad B Grade movies any-way. They would certainly be less harmful if thatwas all they were !!We hope you enjoy this issue and welcome your comments.
