Athletes face various obstacles on a daily basis on and off of the field, whether its game time,
academics, or life in general. Fortunately, athletes find ways to identify the obstacle, its source,
and resolution.

Unfortunately, many high school athletes deal with difficult situations that are out of their control
and may not have the resources necessary to address them. The most common obstacle high
school athletes’ encounter is the lack of finances for qualified academic tutors.

The DAASH Scholarship Fund was created to provide financial assistance to high school athletes
who are from low-income families and lack the funds necessary for qualified academic tutors.
Athletic talent alone does not guarantee scholarships for student athletes. With demanding
academic schedules, and athletic responsibilities, high school athletes often fall behind in their
academics and require additional assistance with their studies. As a result, many talented young
men and women miss out on the opportunity to obtain an athletic scholarship, and in many
situations, a college education. To be eligible for financial assistance, student athletes are
required to meet the following criteria:

• Must demonstrate a need for financial assistance.

• Must be a Michigan resident in Metropolitan Detroit, Pontiac or Lansing/East Lansing.

• Must be on a current high school roster at the time of receiving his or her scholarship and
must remain on the team roster until the end of each season.

The statistics of athletes who are denied athletic scholarships every year due to poor academic
standing will continue to rise unless additional programs are developed. Please assist DAASH
