British attitudes to lesbianand gay people
written by Katherine Cowan
The culture of the country has changed in a definableway as a result of civil partnerships. And here iswhat I think is really interesting, that the changein the culture and the civilising effect of it has gonefar greater than the gay and lesbian community. In other words, by taking a stand on this issue andby removing a piece of prejudice and discrimination, and by enabling people to stand proud as whatthey are, it has had an impact that I think profoundlyaffects the way the country thinks about itself.
