Page 3 of 631 Background
This document aims to provide some information regarding the NASCOWarmaride heaters fitted to FB and EK Holdens. It contains
historical information, such as which heaters were advertised for differentmodel Holdens,
practical information on identification, disassembly and reassembly of FB andEK Warmarides, and
guidance on replacement parts and overhaul techniques. It contains answers to many of the questions that seem to come up every winteron most of the early Holden forums:
“Where do I connect the heater hoses to?”

“Where can I get demister ducting from?”

“Is anyone making aftermarket demister
nozzle
s?”

“My heater tap is dribbling hot water… can I replace it?”

The FB and EK Holden Nasco Warmaride heaters that are the subject of thisdocument are:
Either Recirculatory or Fresh-Air heaters. I will not deal with the FB/EKMotorless heater here... maybe if this document gets an update,
Are either black or very dark grey, though not as dark as the top of the dashwas painted,
Have a matt finish that is rough to touch (like medium grit sandpaper),
Have a multiple-piece casing, with a 12-volt electric fan motor mounted in thelower casing, ventilation assemblies in the middle casing and the heater corelocated in the top casing. An additional flue assembly was fitted to the Fresh-Air heaters, and
A
re fitted with a heater valve (of varying design) on the passenger‟s side of
the heater core casing, controlled by the dash controls.Whilst this document is primarily related to the FB and EK Holden Warmarideheaters, much of the information is similar or identical to other early Holdenheaters. Please bear in mind that the Warmaride heater is more than half acentury old, and that very little documentation is known to exist other thanreferences in parts manuals and
Accelerator
magazines (despite much huntingby enthusiasts, and both FE/FC and FB/EK Clubs). Much of the informationbelow is drawn from internet forums, discussion with enthusiasts and commonsense. I have used photos and other information from a wide variety of sources, particularly from the forums
