Applied Ethnobotany Education and Research in Nepal: Achievements and Future
Directions 尼泊爾的應用民族植物學教育和研究:成就和未來方向 Dharma Raj DANGOL dharmadangol@hotmail.com The Institute of Agriculture and Animal Science (IAAS) of the Tribhuvan University has initiated postgraduate program in Conservation Ecology. In this paper, I will highlight how a course on applied ethnobotany was developed and what are the teaching methods adopted by the instructors. Then, I will discuss on the involvement of community people in learning the methods of indigenous knowledge documentation and experiencing the traditional life of ethnic community. In addition to this, I will attempt to summarize some findings of selected ethnobotanical researches conducted by the teachers and students of the IAAS alone or in partnership with ethnic communities and NGOs; and try to highlight the necessity of developing partnerships and networking with other organizations for promoting ethnobotany teaching and research of the IAAS for producing high quality human resources in this field. Finally, I will discuss on the importance of training and opportunity necessary to enhance capacity building of the teachers and institution for quality and effective teaching.
