PROJECT
MENTOR
Quickfa
Project Mentor, a collaborative effort of Columbus City
Schools and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, with
Nationwide Foundation as the lead sponsor, is an effective,
sustainable mentoring pian. Its mission is to support the
Columbus City Schools Project 2012 initiative to raise
graduation rates, and sustain them in the future. Project
Mentor’s seven-year rollout calls for 10,000 volunteer
mentors saturating every one of the Columbus City Schools
to help individual students and to improve the overall school
environment!
Project Mentor Year One Highlights:
‘+ Project Mentor surpassed its first-year goal of matching
over 1,000 mentors with youth in the Columbus City
‘Schools, primarily eighth-graders.
Project Mentor has formed strong volunteer partnerships
with more than 40 businesses, government organizations,
‘community groups and faith-based organizations that are
providing volunteer mentors.
Volunteers were approved through an application proc-
ess, then provided with training from the Mentoring Cen-
ter of Central Ohio and Big Brothers Big Sisters before
being matched with mentees.
+ Mentoring is a rewarding experience for volunteers, and
employers supporting mentoring efforts find increased
appreciation and job satisfaction from their employees.
‘An independent national study recently demonstrated that
‘School-based Mentoring makes a real difference in the lives
of school children, including their overall academic perform-
ance. With the support of the entire community, Project
Mentor is bringing this impact to more children in our
community by taking School-based Mentoring to scale.
You don't have to change your life to change a child's life.
Just invest one hour a week of your time, and you can help
transform the Central Ohio community one child at a time.
