Since the rst New York City charter school was established in 1999, morehave opened each year to meet rising parent demand. Charter schools arenow located in every borough of the city, serving students from all areas andneighborhoods.
The New York City Charter School Center
is an independent nonprot committed to expanding access tohigh-quality public schools for all students regardless of wherethey live and the challenges they face. We believe that charterschools are partners in a larger effort to build and maintain agreat system of public schools.The Charter Center fosters an environment in which publiccharter schools can open and ourish, and, through theirinnovative approaches, provide models for improving all publicschools. We help new charter schools get started, supportexisting schools, and engage the charter school communityaround key issues.
