BUILDING A TEAM JESUS’ WAY
Jesus made His team His number one focus and prioritised leaders over multitudes.
(b)Jesus chose a diverse team
Many leaders make a mistake in choosing a leadership teamChoosing one that reflects their personality, preferences and personalvalues.None of Jesus’ team were really like HimThey came from a wide variety of walks of lifeRelationships follow streams of attachment based on :-
Family, common interest, occupation, geography, language, culture.Don’t select all your team from the same backgroundOtherwise the resulting stream of relationships will be limitedBecause like attracts likeJesus chose men of different vocations and skills –
Fishermen, Tax Collectors, political activists, ordinary men
Rich, poor, common, uncommon, educated, uneducated. They came from a wide variety of experience, education, social status, upbringingTheir diversity increased their potential for outreach through many streamsof relationshipsThe greater the diversity within the team, the greater ability to reach everysocial level
(c)Jesus followed lines of relationships
The Gospel often moves in families. The goal of the church in Acts was that entire households would be saved. The spread of the Kingdom is through relationships in families, communities, cities, nations.Jesus chose disciples along natural lines of relationships :-
Andrew, disciple of John the Baptist, witnessed Jesus’ baptism.
He moved along family lines and found his brother Peter
Peter moved along vocational lines and brought fishing brothers,James and John
Andrew and Peter moved along community lines, finding Phillip fromtheir hometown. The development of the 12 reflects the development of the kingdom.Healthy, steady growth is through relationships.Streams of relationships will issue out of the ministry of every leader
