In diesel engine gas(air) is compressed,

its temperature rises (see the combined

gas law; a diesel engine uses this property
to ignite the fuel. Air is drawn into the
cylinder of a diesel engine and
compressed by the rising piston at a much
higher compression ratio than for a spark-
ignition engine, up to 25:1. The air
temperature reaches 700–900 °C, or 1300–
1650 °F. At the top of the piston stroke,
diesel fuel is injected into the
combustion chamber at high pressure,
through an atomizing nozzle, mixing with Dieselavi.mpg

the hot, high-pressure air. The resulting

mixture ignites and burns very rapidly.
This contained explosion causes the gas
in the chamber to heat up rapidly, which
increases its pressure, which in turn
forces the piston downwards
 In gas (4 stroke Gasoline engine)
the fuel and air are pre-mixed
before being drawn into the
cylinder. The mixture is then
compressed and ignited at the right
moment with a spark plug. The
fuel/air charge is ignited just before
the piston reaches Top Dead
Center. Gasoline burns more
quickly than diesel fuel, and since
the combustion cycle starts earlier
(15 degrees before Top Dead
Center is common), the entire
combustion process is usually
complete by the time the piston
reaches Bottom Dead Center. It is
critical for this type of engine to
have a knock resistant fuel.

 The dual fuel engine is a four-stroke engine, which
can be run alternatively in gas mode or diesel
mode. In gas mode it runs as a lean burn engine.
main fuel (gas) mixed with air and drawn into
cylinder via intake valve ,when the piston moves
up ward it compresses mixture of fuel ( natural
gas) and air at particular timing (around 30deg
before TDC) the ignition is initiated by injecting a
small amount of diesel oil (pilot fuel), giving a high-
energy ignition source for the main charge in the
cylinder .
