PART 2Green to Brown Belt
“Inner Awareness”
“This is
 green belt
and is the “first sign of strength”. The strength mentioned is the physicalawareness that techniques practiced in the dojo are developing to a point where perhaps the student could make them work in a practical situation. This in turn builds a psychological awareness of confidence. At this level you are introduced to circular movements and begin to fight with an awareness of a potential second opponent.Katas
Sanchin and Tensho
are used to begin your “learning, reference martial arts library”. Muchinner strength will come from these two katas in the years that follow”
The fundamental principles (Hon) released in these sections are:* Open - closed hand relationship* Dynamic tension* Iron fist development (Ippon seiken)* Three stage breathing* Back attack response* Avoiding confrontations* Non-violent responses* Circular footwork* Turning / advanced footwork (Tai sabaki)* Awareness of second opponent* 360 degree awareness (beginning of): scanning* Jumping kicks (Tobi geri)
