Drying process is one of industrial processes that need high quantity of energy. They use high amount of heat for drying air heating. Temperature of drying air depends on moisture content in the air and dryer capacity. Optimization of drying process means minimization of energy costs and optimization of moisture content in the air.

The main task of this work is optimization of fluid bed dryer for drying of Baker`s yeast. That kind of dryer has specific construction and drying process. First aim is to minimize energy needs with reusing of heat that is contained in exit streams and design of heat exchanger network. In the same time there must be satisfied moisture content in drying air. Some streams could be mixed in exact proportions that would prepare drying air with needed characteristics.

One of the most powerful methods for cost optimization of energy and materials is heat and mass Pinch technology. Mass Pinch technology is analog method to heat Pinch technology. It is used for optimization of exact component content in material streams. This method is chosen for dryer optimization.

Solutions are design of heat exchanger networks by using Pinch technology. Those systems of heat exchangers allow being reused heat energy from some exit streams and transferred to inlet energy streams. That kind solution is reason for minimizing of energy needs. So, final designs of heat exchangers network, as well as system that mix some of streams make this process cheaper. The result of this work is actually retrofit design of fluid bed dryer that produce product Baker`s dry yeast with lower costs. This scientific work approves that.
