CONCLUSIONS
• There is a need to improve the
attractiveness of the industry for young
people in the EU by developing
professional fishing qualifications
recognized across the EU.
• There is a need for a common EU
standard for the training and
certification with effective application .
• The 1995 International Convention on
Training, Certification and
Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel
Personnel (STCW-F) is considered the
most relevant standard. However,
STCW-F generally applies to vessels of
over 24 metres.
• In the event that STCW-F is adopted by
the EU, the EU should drive inclusion of
smaller vessels in the STCW-F
obligations.
