INTRODUCTION
Clean coal Technology is the
process in which, coal is partially
combusted with oxygen and steam to
form what is commonly called syngas.
The syngas then is cleaned to
remove particulates and other
emissions.
NECESSITY:
Major portion of energy obtained through fossil
fuels.
Coal provides a dominant portion of the electrical
energy production.
39% of electricity is generated from coal.
The IEA expects a 43% increase in its use from
2000 to 2020.
25 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions are produced
from burning of coal.
COAL
PREPARATION:
1. CO2 pumped into disused coal fields displaces methane which can be used as fuel
2. CO2 can be pumped into and stored safely in saline aquifers
3. CO2 pumped into oil fields helps maintain pressure, making extraction easier
UTILIZATION OF ASH
In Cement production.
Manufacturing bricks.
Soil conditioner.
Artificial light weight aggregate material
Soil conditioner
Advantages
Low emmissions can be obtained.
Costly process
