[Windsor, Ontario] – Dr. Saad Jasim, Director of the Great Lakes Regional Office (GLRO) of theInternational Joint Commission announced today that his office is launching a series of publicseminars on critical Great Lakes issues. The first seminar will be on Tuesday, October 12
th
from7:00pm to 8:30pm in the C.A.W. Student Centre at the University of Windsor and will feature apresentation by Dr. Jasim.The seminar will provide the public with information about the role of the IJC in assessing progressin restoring the Great Lakes under the Boundary Waters Treaty and the Great Lakes Water QualityAgreement. In particular, Dr. Jasim’s presentation will highlight recent priority work regardingChemicals of Emerging Concern – one of the most important water quality issues.Future seminars will address other priority work being conducted for the Commission, includingbeach and recreational water quality, harmful and nuisance algae, benefits and risks of Great Lakesfish consumption, aquatic invasive species and the development of a framework for the assessmentof nearshore conditions in the Great Lakes.An award-winning scientist, engineer and teacher, Dr. Jasim has been the GLRO Director since Mayof this year.
