In September 2007, the FWC approved the GopherTortoise Management Plan. The goal o the plan isto restore and maintain viable populations o gophertortoises throughout Florida. To meet this goal, theplan includes our conservation objectives:
Improve habitat management on protected lands;
Increase protected gopher tortoise habitat;
Restock gopher tortoises to protected andmanaged habitats; and
Decrease gopher tortoise mortality on landsproposed or development.These objectives will be met by implementing actions outlined in broad categories such aspermitting, local government coordination, lawenorcement, habitat preservation and management,population and disease management, landownerincentives, monitoring and research, and educationand outreach.Beore you clear land or move tortoises, knowthe law and obtain proper permits.
