EXPO 2015, THE CHANG-ING FACE OF MILAN
There are people who believethat World Expos alwayschange the look of the citiesthat host them, launching theminto the sphere of great metro-politan areas; there are thosewho underline that the fairshelp organize the lesser aspectsof the cities as well, includingthe day to day administration. No matter whom is right, Mi-lan, a metropolis that spreadsacross municipal borders andwhich has a population of 9 mil-lion, wanted the World Expofor both reasons. As to whocontend that after all, and asopposed to Izmir, Milan alreadyhas everything, the city’s replyis that everything needs to beadapted to meet the challengesof the future. This means thatthe Expo will be an opportunityto reinforce Milan’s modernityas well as that of the region of Lombardy and Italy as well; thegreater Milan area will receivedirect and indirect investmentsof at least 20 billion euros. Forthe World Expo, scheduledfrom May 1 to October 31,2015, 4.2 billion euros havebeen directly invested in infra-structure and the fair area it-self.
