9 Fall Mtg. New Member Night

10 Marathon & Half Marathon

Training Program

Check out the fabulous Running and Racing Report. Our runners were very active this past
month with lots of races, PRs and awards. Our Young Runners and First 5K participants also
completed their goal race at the Italian Fest 5K! Details are on page 4.

We will be holding a Fall Meeting and New Member Night on Tuesday, October 12th at 6:30 p.m.
We will be discussing future club plans for the rest of 2010 and into 2011. PowerBar samples
will be available to all who attend the meeting. We have lots of new members so this will be a
great opportunity for everyone to get to know each other a little better. Hope you can make it.

We need a few more volunteers to fully staff the water stop at the Fred Winters Memorial 5K /
10K on Saturday, October 9th. If you are available to help, please talk with Miriam or Cheri so
we can provide you with additional details regarding where and when to meet that morning. If
you haven’t worked a water stop previously, it is lots of fun and this is a very worthy cause.

The marathon and half marathon training program will be kicking

off soon. See the flyer on page 10 for further details on how
you can train with the group for Go! St. Louis 2011. Have a
friend who wants to go the distance, invite them to join you.
Training starts December 4, 2010.

Good Luck to everyone racing this month!

Happy Running!
Runner Profile
Featured Runner - Erick Larson
When/Why did you start Running? Loose weight

Miles last week: 18

Favorite Distance? Hmmm 3 miles for years, but I am really starting to love the 7 mile run.

Your first Race: (after high school) Italian Fest 1991

Your last Race: Italian Fest 2010
Favorite Race? Go! Journey

Your mantra is: “My God is an awesome God”

Favorite food before a race or long run? Gooey butter cake.
Favorite Gadget? GPS

Something “strange” you always need on a run? When I am running a competitive race, I carry my
lucky coin. I need all the luck I can get.

Amount of races you've done in your life? 15.

Amount of races you've done this year? 3.

When I can't run, I... Complain. When I can run I complain. When I don’t run I get real hyper, when I run I complain that
everyone runs by me.

Music or no Music? If yes, favorite music: I have to have music when I run, darude...sandstorm, eifel 5...blue song &
naturally Bob Dylan is my music idol.

Favorite book? Born to Run.

Favorite Movie? Crocodile Dundee.

Favorite Runner? Tom Richter from the Y (Jim Fixx as a pro).

Favorite brand of apparel? Under Armour.

Favorite brand of shoes? Nike.

How many pairs of running shoes do you have? 8.

Fuel on long run or race is: Body fat (I have plenty, I can share).

Last/current injury: Plantar fasciitis and a heel spur. Doctors in 1995 said I would never run again!!!
PR you're most proud of: an article from the YMCA about me being a spin class instructor.

Next Challenge ahead: Full marathon.

A Goal further ahead you'd like to get to someday: Run any length of run in a real time.

Why do you run? I owned my own business & have a tremendous amount of pressure. Two minutes into any run, I for-
get that pressure and “I’m running on empty.” While I am running one of my good runs, I feel I can conquer anything.
No alibis work. It is just you and the road!
