POLL GIVES BALL LEAD OVER KAPLOWITZ
Iona College Survey Finds Many Voters Still Undecided and  Anti-Albany Sentiment is Widespread Decision 2010
Debates Are Key to Learn Where CandidatesStand on the Issues
WHITE PLAINS, NY (October 4, 2010)
– A new RNN-TV/Westchester CountyAssociation poll of the closely-watched race for the New York State Senate’s40
th
District shows
Greg Ball
(R) with a lead over
Mike Kaplowitz
(D) (I). Thepoll, conducted by Iona College, also shows a large undecided voting block anda strong anti-Albany sentiment. When asked whom they would vote for, 45% said Ball and 35% said Kaplowitzwith 20% saying that they are undecided.“The large number of undecided voters suggests that both candidates have a lotof ground to cover before election day,” said
Jeanne Zaino
, coordinator of theIona College Poll and a political science professor at the school. “A wild card inthis race is that neither candidate is an incumbent senator. Although Ball iscurrently a member of the State Assembly and Kaplowitz is a member of theWestchester County Board of Legislators, Ball has a reputation as an outsider and frequent critic of his own party, and Kaplowitz has in recent years positionedhimself as a critic of spending by the Democrat-controlled County Legislature. Itwill be interesting to see how their records in their current elected positions areperceived by the independents.”1
