“I’ll be over after dinner,” Alec says as he walks up to his front door leaving Jesse to
finish the walk home by himself.* * * *
The four boys; Alex, Cody, Vince and Aaron, arrived at Jesse’s house just after dark.
Their routines were similar every day. They would finish their homework when they got homefrom school. Then they were all left a list of chores that they would finish up as quickly as
possible and then it would be close to dinnertime. When they weren’t playing their game, theywould either read through their “Wizards & Warriors” comics or play video games. They all
secretly hoped that their own adventures into
Ashtonia
(their own made up world) would oneday make it into the comics.
They file through the house saying their greetings to Jesse’s parents. This would be thelast normal night of playing they would ever have as tonight’s events would set in motion a
chain of events that would drastically change their friendships and themselves.Once through the door going down to the basement, they would switch into their role-playing voices. It really was as if they were entering an alternate world.
“Greetings fair weather travelers,” Jesse greets them. “It’s a beautiful day in the land of
Ashtonia
.”
“Ah, greets my good fellow. My brother and I are excited for the adventure to come,”
Aaron beamed as he slapped his twin brother Vince on the back.Vince pushes his glasses back onto his nose because the slap to his back dislodged them.
He was proud of his glasses though because they didn’t make him funny looking in the game.
