HOUSE KEEPING

INTRODUCTION
The housekeeping is the department of a
hotel charged with cleaning and
maintaining rooms and public spaces.
From the time a guest checks-in in a
hotel till he checks out, it is the
housekeeping department which takes
care of the guest by making his / her
stay pleasant and comfortable.
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HOUSEKEEPING AND
OTHER DEPARTMENTS
TYPES OF ROOM
Single Room
A single room has a single bed for single
occupancy.
Double Room
It is a room with one double bed meant for
two people.
Deluxe Room
This room is well furnished, carpeted and
more suitable for single persons and small
families. Deluxe Rooms are available with
Single and Double beds.
Twin Room
A room with two single beds meant for two
people.

Suite
A suite in a hotel mostly denotes a class of
luxury rooms. Suites offer more space and
furniture than a basic hotel room. In addition
to the standard bed and bedroom fixtures, a
suite will typically add a living room, Dining,
office and kitchen facilities are also added in
some suites.
Penthouse Suite
A penthouse suite i s mostly on the highest f
l o o r s o f hotel building. A penthouse suite
may also provide occupants with private
access to the roof space above the suit,
instead of or in addition to terrace space
created by an adjacent sit back.

Duplex Room
A set of rooms not on the same level but it
is connected by an internal staircase.
Generally, the parlor is at the lower level
and the bedrooms are at the upper level
Interconnected Rooms
Two rooms adjacent to each other having
an interconnecting door allowing entry from
one room to another, without having to go
through the corridor. The interconnecting
doors can be opened or locked as per the
guest’s choice.

BED MAKING
Remove soiled sheets and pillow covers
and shake out individually.
Turn the mattress side-to-side on
succeeding days followed by end-to-end
turning. Smooth out the mattress to air it
out.
Shake out the mattress protector and relay
it on the mattress.
Change the protector that is soiled or
smelling.

Open out the fresh lower sheet evenly and
tuck it securely at the head, foot and the
sides
Open out fresh top sheet and distribute it
evenly over the bed. Ensure that the
laundry creases are in the same line.
Open up the duwed cover (Single/Double)
and lay it along the duwed
The Duwed hem should be evenly pulled
up to the headboard and a broad fold is
made.
Tuck the duwed at the foot.

The duwed and the top sheet are tucked
uniformly on both sides while the corners at
the foot of the bed are neatly mitered.
Cover pillows with fresh pillow slips. Fluff
the pillow and even out pillow slips to look
neat and tidy
The side of the pillow which has the fold
should be away from guest view
Decorate the bed with Decorative pillows
and place runner along the foot part of the
bed.
The bed is ready now for guest perusal
