I joined this stop smoking class at the neighborhood health clinic and it is a wonderful program. Its called the Cooper-Clayton method to stop smoking. It was developed by two doctors and they really have every thing planned out from week 1 to week 13 which is as far as the program goes. They also give you nicoderm cq patches every week, enough to last you until the next meeting. It is a wonderful method and many people from my area have quit smoking using this method. It doesnt cost a dime, just one hour a week and i would suggest that people search for this program. It really works, i have been smoke free for a month now, i am still in the program and i love it.

I read "easyway to stop smoking" by Alan Carr, worked for me, it gives you facts and it was like: hallelulja, I've seen the light! Cold turkey with an understanding of how nicotine addiction affects you worked for me. All the best to all of you guys out there, let's look after our bodies hey?

I was supposed to quit before my first sons birth that was thirteen yrs ago, then before my 2nd sons birth, that was 11 yrs ago. Also was supposed to quit just about every birthday and new years for the past years. I smoked a pack a day since 17, I am 35 now. I tried to quit several times throughout the years but the longest tme I went w/o smoking was only 2 days...until now. I am 4 weeks without smoking now, cold turkey. I often thought before quitting how would I enjoy certain things I use to do while smoking all these years. To my surprise I am enjoying everything, every second and even more. During the first 24 hrs of my quitting I found an article online called "Never Take Another Puff" and the first chapter alone helped me. It helped me to understand what I really enjoyed about smoking was actually the pleasure of my body getting it's nicotine fix and relieving me of that momentary withdrawl. And thats basically "smoking" relieving yourself of that nicotine withdrawl that you'll experience all day, everyday. I struggled for the first three days and made that...finally. I still struggled a bit here and there but it gradually became easier reaching the two week mark and now I am through. I don't want any kind of nicotine in my body ever again. I hope the best for everyone on their quiting and don't get to hung up on a date your probably ready right now.

Using Chantix to quit for the 2nd time really worked. Remember to use Chantix like a trip to your favorite store, resturant, sporting event, or movie. You must be pysche yourself up to the idea of quitting. I started taking Chantix 7 weeks ago and I have not have a smoke for 6 days now. I just got excited about the idea of not smoking and eventually you start believing it. That is the most important aspect of quitting. You must believe in it, if you have any hesitation about quitting then it will not work. You must want to, look forward to the idea of not having to smoke. I smoked since I was 15 and now I am 36. 21 years (I did quit for 18 months)and I had enough.

Hi everyone, I smoked for over 25 years. I am 46 years old. 12 years ago I thought I would never quit. I spoke with my physican and he prescribed medication that would help me with quitting. Now medication isn't for everyone but, I can tell you that it did help me. I struggled with quitting for many years. Finally I said enough is enough. My doctor prescribed, Wellburtin is an antidepressant medication that affects chemicals within the brain that nerves use to send messages to each other. These chemical messengers are called neurotransmitters. Many experts believe that depression is caused by an imbalance among the amounts of neurotransmitters that are released. Nerves, in a process referred to as reuptake, may recycle released neurotransmitters. Wellburtin works by inhibiting the reuptake of dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine; an action that results in more dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine to transmit messages to other nerves. By the way, I copied that last section from a medical website. Those aren't my words.

i just read this very powerful one-pager.. i'm 32 and i've been smoking for 15 years. crap.... i'd like to go cold turkey but i am hesitant.. figures that my will to do so isn't that strong.. i have a daughter who would love to see me stop, but i guess i have to be ready to do so. the only time i stopped smoking was when i was pregnant, a month after giving birth, i'm back to the old nasty habit.. maybe there's someone strong enough out there to kick the hell out of me and make me stop.. i am addicted to this nicotine garbage..

Go cold turky. It's the only way. Just say no more and be strong willed. I tried the patches and ended up addicted to both the patchs and ciggas. grats to all who quit!

I quit smoking 3 weeks ago. 3 Weeks ago was my sons 1st birthday. I have tried to quit a million times before. I am 30 and have smoked since I was 15. Never liked smoking, hated the smell, taste, the money and time wasted... but still smoked. I would be the guy to "welcome back" the other failed quitters. It was a funny thing to me. We all wanted to quit something we all hated but no one had success. Why? All you have to do is just not smoke, right? Yea, we all know how that goes... Anyway, I am going nowhere with that train of thought. This is how I have quit and am 99% sure I am done for good… Back to my son. He is my first and only child. My wife and I of course think he is the best kid in the world (doesn’t everyone). I have wanted to quit smoking for some time. Money has been tight and we don’t and have never smoked in our home so it is getting cold again. It sucks to shiver when you are trying to "enjoy" a cigarette. So, my wife has been telling me we need to quit. Of course I always pick a day that IS NOT today. So I told her I would quit on my birthday, which was 12/13 (30th). Dec 13th came and went and I still was smoking. My sons first birthday was 12/17 and to myself I thought I would quit on his birthday. It would be something I wanted to do and it is really a good present for him (along with the other toys he of course got) He just don’t know he will be getting this present right now. So, I quit and now whenever I even think about wanting a cigarette I think about how he only has one 1st birthday and how I would love to be able to tell him in 20 years how I quit for him on his birthday, something I have never been able to quit before. I have a reason not to now. Before, I would quit and a few days later I would talk myself back in to "just having one" and it was all over. But now I have not had a puff since the day before his birthday. I wanted my first full day of not smoking to be on his b-day. Now, I have forgotten the patch a few days and now I am out and too lazy to go the store to get more and I have had nothing (cig or patch) for several days and I am not at all ready to give in. I think this is the time. I wanted to pass along to everyone. If you have a child or a loved one that you love more than anything, a certain day that means something to you, pick that day to quit. Make sure you know why you chose that day and how you will never have the chance to quit smoking on that day ever again. My sons first birthday was the one for me, you get the point. This way it puts something else there when you think, “maybe I will just have one”. No, you cant, you have not had one since the day before your sons very first birthday and how could you do something like smoke and ruin a present that is better than any truck or ball in the world. He will have you longer and you will be around to see him those extra years. You and your wife will be able to enjoy your life. I hope this may help some of you and I know it has done the job for me. hey every1 am 18 and iv been smoking since i was 11!!!something i wish i never started but i had been thinking bout quitting for a while now&woke up last Monday morning and thought am going to give up 2day and normally i don't but that day i did&i have been stopped for a week now,it wasn't as hard as i thought i just carried on my every day life and at the times i would normally have a fag i do something elc like have some gum or a drink of water,my mum&dad both smoke&i hope that they see how iv done it and try to,my boyfriend is a none smoker&god knows how he put up with the smell of me i can't stand the smell any more,but he told me i would never give up&he is so proud of how well i have done as well as my mum&dad which makes me proud of my self to :D Everyone CAN stop you just need the willpower and believe in you're self do it for you're self,find new things to do with you're time instead of smoking,i have stopped for a week&i feel healthier already.:D xx
