Standard Requirements for a Thesis Proposal
 
GENERAL INSTRUCTION
 
All students enrolled in the Dissertation course, 2
nd
 
Semester 08-09 are requiredto
submit one copy
of the research proposal to Dr. Anneth R. Ramirez, Lecturer,of the School of Biotechnology, International University.All thesis proposal should conform to the rules formulated in the 6th Edition of the CSE Style Manual
 
: A Guide for Authors, Editors and Publishers in the BiologicalSciences published in 2006
 
PREPARATION OF THESIS PROPOSAL
 
Access to a word processor is important in the preparation of any manuscript. Itis recommended that the student use a word processor which will facilitatecorrections in the text. The student is responsible for the correct presentation of the content, reference and illustrative materials of the manuscript, arrangementsof parts, sentence structure, paragraphing, punctuation, spelling, quotations,forms of footnotes and bibliographical items and of tables and other illustrativematerials.

A white cotton bond paper is required

Printing
 
 
(a) The thesis shall be printed on one side of the paper.
 
(b)
The left-hand margin
of all pages including text,tables, plates, figures, photographs, etc. must be at
least
1½"
 inches
to allow for binding. A margin of at least one inch must
 
be left on the right side and at the top and bottom of the paper
 
to allow for trimming when the thesis is bound
 
.
 
(c) Inked-in corrections of errors in spelling,punctuation, etc., are not permitted.
Double spacing
shouldbe used, but for long quotations of more than fifty words, thewriting should be indented three-quarters of an inch from theleft hand margin and single spaced. Footnotes are alwayssingle spaced. Whenever possible the manuscript should havetyped scientific notations
 
 
(d) The preliminary pages (Acknowledgment, Table of Contents, Abstract) are to be numbered with small Romannumerals. For the rest of the manuscript beginning with theIntroduction, Arabic numerals should be placed at the top-righthand corner about one half inch above the top margin. Noperiod or other marking may follow or precede these numerals.
 
(e) No word of less than six letters may be divided in aformal manuscript. Divisions of words at the end of a lineshould concur with Webster’s International Dictionary andshould nor occur on more than two adjacent lines.
 
(f) Each heading of the main divisions of themanuscripts (Table of Contents, Abstract, List of Tables, List of Figures) should begin on a new page, with the heading typed incapital letters throughout and centered one inch below theupper marginal line.
 
(g) The manuscript should be carefully proof read andcorrected by the student before submission to the Lecturer. Thestudent is fully responsible for the manuscript, including anytypographical errors.
