AsSeventhDayAdventistreformers,wearekeenlyawareoftheshortnessoftimeremainingbeforethereturnofourLordJesusChrist
in
thecloudsofheaven.Inthereligiousworld
at
largeandamongAdventists
in
particular,variouswindsofdoctrineare
blowing-many
of
themcenteredaroundthesecondcoming
of
Christ.Indeed,ourSaviour'sadvent
is
tobethegreatesteventevertooccur
in
humanhistory,andhowessentialit
is
thatweallconsidercarefullyhowthissoberingrealityshouldbeaffectingourlivesbothindividuallyandasachurch.Wearelivinginasolemn
hour-one
in
whichmereprofessions
of
godliness,signsandwonders,outwardceremonies,theologicalprowessandtimesettingtablescannotsaveoursouls.Rather,there
is
onebasictruthsoontoberealizedworldwide:thatonlythepure
in
heartshallseeGod(Matthew5:8).Purityofheart,holiness
of
mind,aretheprerequisitesfortranslationtoheaven.Thesequalitiesarenotoptionstobeperhapsadmiredyetlightlyregarded,butinsteadaredistinctivecharacteristicsabsolutelynecessaryforadmissiontotheheavenlycourts.Neitherfaith
in
Christalonenormerehumaneffortandgoodworkscanensureoursalvation,butonlythesavingfaith
of
Jesus-that
"faithwhichworkethbylove"(Galatians5:6)."Alltruereformationbeginswithsoul-cleansing.
