FIRST TERM CRITIQUE
The major critique given rom my rst term’s work was that I was ignoring the meaning in words. Iwas basically just trying to use letter orms as symbols - graphically - to create pattern and drawingrom them. It was suggested that I begin to look into the meanings o words and the work o dierentauthors.

Roussel
Dwarves that sweat blood. Inatable devices which utilize the magnetic properties o mysterious alloys to extract loose teeth. 20 seconds o resurrection. These are the absurdities which Raymond Roussel creates in Locus Solus. Butthey become believable absurdities. Roussel conronts technology and realitythrough, seemingly, nonsensical stories. Technology is used to explain or justiyhis tales - although the technology is just as absurd as the stories. But is it?Every object and consequence depicted throughout the novel is riddled withlayers o complex history and Roussel’s mythology. But is it? What is real andwhat is not? What is possible and what is not?Roussel’s construction o language is extremely puzzling at frst. It is as i youare reading an extremely bizarre, vivid and rich dream sequence. That is probablythe best way I can try to explain it. His method in presenting each story is whatI propose to adopt or my method o working or the term. As mentioned, hesets up each story in a manner o which the reader is experiencing it or thefrst time with no context or history. Roussel then retraces the absurdity andvivisects every layer o history and every consequence within. This makes or avery rich way o construcing a myth...

Locus Solus
. As a result o thecritique rom my rst term’s work, I was put on to the work o the RaymondRoussell - a rench writer rom the beginning o the 20th century. It became myobjective to develop a method o working roughly based on the literary methodo Roussell.
I would begin to attempt to create architecture, or rather
invent
 architecture, through writing.
