He was my friend. He was the brother I never had. E v er yon e in his lifetime should be lucky enough to know someone like him. He wasn't perfect by any means, but his faults were common one and his many virtues were exemplary. He had the ability to enter a room crowded with strangers, and, in a very short time, number !bern his friends.

Tears have been shed, and will continue to be shed . but the joy of knowing his present home consoles me.

Xl ike Perlougo was my friend· and now he's gone.

VARSITY FOOTBALL

The 1964 Crusader season produced a much more successful team than was expected. This was due to the fine coaching of Mr. Wllltam Flynn, who, in his second year of coaching at Brother Rice, has come up with the hardest hitting team in the' Catholic League, and to the team members, who, through their desire to win, gave Brother Rice Football its best season yet -- 6 wins and 3 losses.

The Crusaders six victories were achieved by beating some of the finest teams in Chicago. Rated first and second in South Section, powerful Mt. Carmel and Leo feU to the Crusaders. From the North Section, highly regarded Gordon Tech and Fenwick were disposed of 22 - 14 and 20 - O.

Congratulations to the team and the coaches. With a talented and experienced team returning next year, Brother Rice will be a strong contender for the City Championship.

Co-Captain Jack Pautsch falls on a Leo fumhle.

The 1964-65 season was one of pleasant surprise for the Heavies and (heir followers. Not considered' as a contender for the championship, the Heavies started the season looking like an also-ran. But the team began to playas a team, and they captured third place in the DePaul Christmas tournamenl. From here 011, the Crusaders looked like the team to beat. They won their first 3 league games, and were tied for first place for most of the season. The Heavies then went on to post a league.record of 9 won and 3 lost. The team was led by seniors Den Sendlak, Kirk Norris, Tom Tracy, Rich Rutkowski, John Hench, and junior Mike Mossuto. Congratulations to the team and Mr. Kellogg.

10< Ladd Ups the ball to Michalak

The 1965 Lightweights were spearheaded by seniors, Rich Collins, Joe Sullivan, Ned Haskins, Steve Ladd, Mike Nolan, Denny St. Germaine, Tom Roebuck, and Bob Michalak. The team showed good balanced scoring, with Collins and Nolan leading the attack.

Although the season record of does not seem terrific, one need only look to see that the paint spread in any of the Crusader losses was never very large. Many of the Crusader losses came when the team had lost two or three of its starting five, through foul trouble.

Much credit must be given to Mr. Kellogg, who whipped the team into shape, and instilled into them the drive that marks the difference between a winner and a loser.
