Our Treatment

Background of the song

• Teenage Dream" is a song by Katy Perry was release as the second single
from her second mainstream studio album ‘Teenage Dream’ on the July 23,
2010 through digital distribution. Katy and Bonnie McKee wrote many
songs with a youthful theme in mind, but they were rejected by producers.
One producer imagined "Teenage Dream" as a throwback song to the
euphoric feelings of being in love as a teenager.
• "Teenage Dream" is a midtempo pop song with a retro sound. Lyrically it
talks about being with a lover that makes one feel young again. Critics gave
mixed reviews to "Teenage Dream". While some reviewers praised it for its
mature feel, others criticized it for not being as catchy as her previous
singles. "Teenage Dream" has topped the charts in United States, New
Zealand and Ireland as well reaching the top-ten in Australia, Canada, and
the United Kingdom, and has charted in Belgium, Sweden and the
Netherlands.
• The song gave Katy her third US Hot 100 number-one hit, and her second
consecutive number-one single. Whereas, In the UK singles chart the single
got to number 2.
The music video

 Our video is going to be a narrative video as we are

telling a love story of a young boy and girl. This will
conform to the Pop music genre as most of the
videos made under this genre are about love. For
example: Taylor Swift, ‘Love Story’.
 However we will include some performance
elements, where the girl is going to dance around
her bedroom and sing into the mirror. This is similar
to Taylor Swift’s video ‘You belong with me’ This
meets the assessment criteria of lip synching.
Costume and make up
We feel that the girl should be fashionable and wear skinny jeans. This will
relate to the lyrics where she refers to her ‘skin-tight jeans’. One of her
costumes will be girly which is conforming to the Pop genre,
whilst another costume is going to be rockier which will
challenge the Pop genre.

The photograph on the left is an example of the make-up that we

want however we want it darker and bolder; the photo on the right
Is how we want the make up.
Costume and make up
We want the make-up to have a natural look: mascara, blusher, lip gloss, and
we want the hair to be curly this would be in the bedroom scene which
reinforces her innocence and naivety. We think she should be in her
pyjamas for this scene again to reinforce these themes.

In the Brighton scene we want her to look less innocent

because it conveys to the lyrics and the theme of the song
which is wants to go ‘all the way’.
The photograph on the left is an example of the natural eye
Make-up that we want.
Location
 We want to film in Brighton on the pier and the beach. This is
because we like the lively atmosphere of the clubs and the
architecture.
 We also want to film a scene in her bedroom where she is
going to dance around and sing to the song. We think that
this shows that she is quite young and innocent. The fairy
lights and pink in the room also represents the Pop genre.
Lighting
 In our music video we will have ambient lighting because we
are filming outdoors.
 We want to have bright lighting in some shots when the
couple are together to make it seem like a ‘dream’, examples
of this is from Kate Nash- Foundation, Katy Perry- Teenage
Dream and Beyonce- Halo. That specific lighting technique
seems to be mainly in female artists music videos about love.
Codes and Conventions
 The girl’s room is going to be pink
with fairy lights and really girly which
will represent Pop genre which is
quite feminine.
 We are going to film a scene with her
buying some candy floss and sweets
like a lollipop again to represent the
genre.
 The location is also really colourful
with all the bright lights of the funfair
and the clubs.
Audience feel

 Young love- the video will be about first love

 Happy- it is an upbeat and fun song so we would
like our video to represent the song but there may
be a twist.
 Feel good- make the audience enjoy watching the
video because of the storyline.
 Heart breaking- this may be the twist where the
girl is left on her own.
 Sympathetic- feel sorry for the girl being left on
her own.
Inspiration

For a shot in our video we wanted to have a puzzle join
together, this was inspired by Kate Nash- Foundations
when the sock curl around each other to represent love
and when they move away symbolises the separation.

We want to film at a Funfair and after watching Pink-
Who Knew we have decided to film some shots of the
rides and the couple of the ride.

We want to have a split screen showing both of
the characters point of view this was inspired by
Paramore- That’s What you get, we feel that with this
shot we can express their love for one another.
Lyrics
The lyrics to the song have influenced our choice in camera shots and mise-en-scene.
Here are some ideas that we have thought of:
 “My missing puzzle piece, I’m complete”- We will film a high angle shot and leave
the camera running and we will slowly place puzzle pieces of a picture of the
couple together, we will then edit this shot to make it seem make it flows.
 “You think I’m pretty without any make up on” – The lead girl will have natural
make up.
 “In my skin-tight jeans”- The lead girl will be wearing skinny jeans.
 “Now every February, you’ll be my valentine, valentine”- We want the girl to be
laying on the ground with valentine cards, heart shaped cards and heart shaped
confetti surrounding the girl. We came up with this idea after watching Paramore-
The Only Exception, we feel it will suit our music video really well.
