Dear Members of Staff,
atthe “Körber Management Conference 2006” held in Pécs,Hungary, in mid-September (see page 21) we introduced anddiscussed the revised “Guidelines and Principles” of theKörber Group, our “Values and Principles.” They have beenprinted in eight languages – Chinese, Czech, English, French,German, Hungarian, Italian and Portuguese – so as to corre-spond with our largest production locations. They will beissued to all employees in the Körber Group. Why do we in our Group and our individual companiesneed formulated values and principles? Our businessactivities are subject to many rules and regulations, and therelationship with our suppliers and customers is governed by contract. Our Values and Principles are meant to provide us with orientation which goes over and above these basic rulesof conduct. They describe the idea and the identity behindour Group as well as shared standards of value that cannotbe found in laws and rules. Not only are we an “economicalliance of convenience” but we also constitute a community of values. Our economic environment is changing constantly, andour society’s values are altering. That is why from time to time we rewrite and adapt the wording of our Values andPrinciples. We have preserved the structure but have reducedthe content and made some of the statements moreconcise.
SOME OF THE MAIN MESSAGES ARE:
WeareaGroup that mustassertitself in the face of global competition and wemusttherefore be organized correspondingly. Unlike several listedcompanies,we give priority to long-term positive develop-ment rather than short-term profit maximization. We investour accumulated capital in such a way that people findgainful employment with us which must increase our profita-bility. For it goes without saying that we are committed to theself-evident demand of our sole shareholder, the KörberFoundation, to increase our corporate value. It also goes without saying that the strategies governing our divisions and business areas must always be orientedtowards the needs of our customers. All strategic measures, whether they concerncost reductions or innovations, aresubject to this premise. Should we fail in this undertaking, wecould be forced to sell off or abandon services or products.
02_03EDITORIAL AND CONTENTS
Wehave a common understanding of our entrepre-neurial activity that is geared towards sustainable economicsuccess and is thus prerequisite to the preservation of ourindependence. In the same way, we want to agree oncommon measures of value regarding our charitable andsocial activities. In doing so, we tolerate, accept and upholdthe different local values in all the countries in which weoperate and do business. This principle clearly expresses ourinternational orientation.
WHAT APPLIES TO ALL EXECUTIVES IN THE VARIOUS COMPANIES
is that we want to always treat our employees fairly. We want to inform our employees about the current situation, we want to recognize their performance and reimburse themfairly, and we want to make employees aware of changes in atimely manner and support them in their efforts to acquirefurther qualifications. Our business success in all of our locations is of theutmost importance and extremely valuable to these regions. The same goes for society in general, to which we as a Groupand the Körber Foundation are committed according to the wishes of our company founder, Dr Kurt A. Körber. TheFoundation has gained worldwide recognition through itscharitable initiatives and projects, and wethe entire KörberGroup – can be justly proud to havethe Foundation as oursole shareholder.Iwarmly recommend that you read the “Values andPrinciples” for they are the basis for our mutual under-standing and actions.
Yours sincerely,Werner Redeker
