Background of Event
English is now an international language so that the ability is so important in this global
era. The ability is worth to communicate since college until work life. But nowadays, students
remain considering that understanding and using English is a difficult subject to learn. Those
opinion decreases the self confident to use the active English in daily life so that student only
have English passive ability inside of the active one. Based on those considerations, the Student
Executive Organization of Faculty of Agriculture Technology (BEM FATETA) intends to conduct
a competition and seminar as a medium to increase the student of Bogor Agricultural Institute
active English ability.

Event Objectives
This event aims to give a real medium to increase the active English ability in speaking
and listening for students of Bogor Agricultural Institute.

Theme of Event
This event is conducted with theme “When English Goes Along Us”.

Date and Place

This event will be held in November 13 and 14th, 2010 in IPB. The competitions take
place mostly in FATETA. The second day will be held in Auditorium of Abdul Moeis Nasution
(AMN), FATETA.

Event Description
Competition
FATETA, November 13 & 14th, 2010
1. Debating Competition
The debating competition is held according to Asian Parliamentary System which is a
debate about a motion between two teams and the POI allowed. The team could be a
representation of a faculty and consists of three participants at each team. This competition
will be consisting of three rounds; the preliminary round, semifinal, and final house. The
preliminary and semifinal round will be held in the first day of event, whereas the final
house will be on the second day of event. Every house will be judged with one or three
adjudicator.

2. Speech Contest
Speech contest will be held in only two rounds; preliminary round and final podium.
The final podium will pass off in the second day. The speaker must deliver his/her chosen
speech in only 8 minutes in preliminary round, and six best speakers will be elected to
speak in the final podium. In final podium, the speaker has 10 minutes to deliver his/her
speech, which the theme is given by the judge. The speech duration is one of judgments
criteria.

3. Newscaster Contest
This contest will be held in only two rounds; preliminary round and final round. The
final round will pass off in the second day. The speaker must report a new that he/she has
chosen from the themes given and 7 best newscasters will be elected to fight in the final
stage. In the final stage, the newscasters must report a new that the theme is given in the
final day in two formats; single and group presentation.

4. Spelling Bee
This competition is about spelling letter-by-letter a word that given by the judges.
Spelling bee consists of two rounds; preliminary and final round. In the preliminary round,
two different words will be given to each participant to be spelled and 6 best spellers will
be elected to fight in the final round. Time for each word is only 2 minute and 30 seconds.
The last 6 spellers will reach the championship final which is held in the second day of
event. In championship final, the speller must spell 3 complex words about agriculture and
technology. The three best spellers with the highest score will be the winner of competition.

Each competition will consist of three winners; 1st place, runner up, and 3rd place. Each
winner will be given the following achievments:
- Medal
- Winner certificate
- Cash, sponsor and other gifts
- etc
Beside those winners, the champion of this event will be determined by the
number of achievments. The champion will own the university head trophy for one year
until FALCON 2011.

Seminar
Hall of Abdul Moeis Nasution, November 14th, 2010
The Seminar focused on theme “How to Understand and Use English Effectively in
College and Daily Life”. This seminar will be held on the second day of event. The content of
this seminar will be especially useful to know how to understand subject which is written in
English, how to apply simple English word in daily conversation, and everything about simple-
but-active English. The speaker will be a representative form an english learning institute in
Indonesia. The fee of this seminar is only Rp 5000,- for every participant but it is free for all
contestant of FALCON 2010.

Registration Requirements

The registration requirements is explained below,

1. Each faculty allowed registering only one team for debating competition, 3 participants
for speech, and 4 delegations for each newscaster contest and spelling bee. Every
participant can only follow one competition.
2. Each participant must be registered in the registration form and with several additions:
- 1 copy of ID Card (KTM)
- 1 self photo, size 3x4 cm
The registration form is enclosed from this paper
3. The fregistration fee is bundled for the pack of participants above and the provision is
Rp 165.000,-/faculty.
4. The registration form and all requirements must be assembled by to the secretariat
office of BEM FATETA before November 7th, 2010. The registration form and
requirements must be bundled in one paper map (to avoid data loss).
5. The registration fee can be settled coinciding with the registration form delivery or can
be paid latter in the technical meeting.

Technical Meeting Information

The technical meeting is held to ease information transfer about each competition and
to treat the same perception about the competition rules between the committee and all
participants. The technical meeting will be held on November 8-9th, 2010 take place in
secretary room of BEM FATETA IPB at 16.30 – 18.00 WIB.
