What is DOEACC
Bringing quality computer education within reach of more
Set up as an autonomous organization under the Dept. of Electronics (now Ministry of Communications
& Information Technology) Govt. of India, the prime objective of DOEACC Society is to bring the most
updated global industry relevant computer education, within the reach of more and more. The Society
was formed on the 9th November 1994 and is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
The management and administration of the Society is overseen by Governing Council, under the
chairmanship of the Minister of State, Communications & Information Technology, Government of
India. Members of the Council consist of eminent academia from IITs, Universities, etc. and
professionals from the industry.

DOEACC Society is implementing a joint scheme of AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education)
and DIT (Department of Information Technology) formerly DOE (Department of Electronics), Govt. of
India. The objective of this scheme is to develop quality manpower in the field of IT by utilizing the
expertise available with the computer training institutes who are granted accreditation for conducting
specified levels of course all over the India and even abroad.

Realising the wide gap in the availability of quality computer professionals to meet India’s ambitious
leadership plans in software exports, the society has revolutionalised computer knowledge
dissemination, by offering its meticulously prepared curriculum through the no-formal sector.

Specific Levels of courses:

O Level - Equivalent to Foundation level course

A Level - Equivalent to Advanced Diploma in Computer Applications
B Level - Equivalent MCA Level
C Level
The courses are to be conducted according to prescribed syllabus for each Level. Students from
accredited institutes as well as working professionals are eligible to appear for the examinations at
these Levels conducted by the DOEACC Society, if they fulfill the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Accreditation

The prospectus for each Level of courses, namely, 'O'/ 'A' /'B'/ 'C', specifies the norms and criteria,
governing accreditation for that Level. Institutes apply to the DOEACC Society in the prescribed format
with a fee. A Screening Committee is constituted by the Society, consisting of a Convener and two
members, specifically in each case to make an on the spot inspection of the institutes and make
recommendations on grant of accreditation. The Convener and members are chosen from a database
of experts. Based on the recommendations, accreditation is granted. As on 1st January 2004 about
839 institutes have been approved in the country to conduct 1133 courses ('O' Level 739, 'A' Level
303, 'B' Level 81 and 'C' Level 10) to conduct DOEACC accredited courses.

Registration
Registration is mandatory for students to appear for the DOEACC examination. At a point of time, a
student can be registered at only one Level. For getting registered with he DOEACC Society, a student
has to apply in a prescribed format with a fee. As on 1st January 2004, the number of registrants with
the Society is about 4,50,872.

Examinations
Examinations are conducted twice a year in January and July for all the level of courses, namely
`O'/`A'/`B'/`C' on All India basis in about 106 centres. The total number of papers, for all the Levels,
to be set for the examination is 148. The number of paper/module candidates for the last examination
(July 2003) was about 1,94,275. The examinations are managed by a Board of Examinations consisting
of academia and professionals. As on 1st January 2004, a total of 42,080 candidates have been issued
certificates so far out of the 69,055 candidates who have qualified all the theory papers at the
respective levels.

Syllabus

Syllabus for different levels are designed and finalized by a Syllabus Committee for each Level,
consisting of academicians and professionals in the computer field including representatives from the
IT industry. Syllabi are updated at reasonable intervals to meet the requirements of industry. Teaching

Registration
1. What is Registration?

A system of registration of candidates has been evolved to monitor the growth of a student through
the various levels of courses under the DOEACC Scheme and to enable the Society to infer the likely
number of candidates appearing in a particular examination in advance to ensure proper planning for
the forthcoming examinations. Under the system of Registration, each candidate gets a unique
identification number.

a) Registration Forms - Free of cost.

Registration is only for candidates and not for institutes. Registration forms are available from the
DOEACC Society free of cost and can be obtained either in person or through post. Clear Photostat
copies of the Registration Forms may be made use of by candidates for applying for registration.
Arrangements are also being made to enable students and institutes to down load the Performa from
the DOEACC web site (http://www.doeacc.org.in). Application Forms for examinations are different
from Registration Forms. Registration Number is also different from Roll Number of a candidate, for
examination.

b) A student can register only at one level at a time.

Essentially a candidate can register at only one level at any point of time and appearing for an
examination at any other level is not permitted.

c) Registration - pre-requisite for appearing in Examination.

Registration is a pre-requisite for appearing in DOEACC O/A/B/C level examinations. Candidates should
apply for registration in the prescribed form, which is attached at Annexure-I.

d) (i) The DOEACC Society at New Delhi is the authority for registration for all levels.
(ii) Registration is open throughout the year. However, cut-off dates have been prescribed for receipt
of completed registration forms. The current schedule of cut-off dates is: -
Level Cut-off Dates
January Exams July Exams
O Level Preceding 30th June Preceding 31st December
A/B/C Levels Preceding 31st July Preceding 31st January
(iii) Candidates are not eligible to appear in the relevant examination if their Registration Forms are
received after the stipulated cut-off dates, except for certain specific cases as may be notified by
DOEACC from time to time.

2. Registration, by itself, does not entitle a candidate to appear for an examination at the level
concerned, unless all conditions, stipulated in the examination application form, and in any other
notification, relevant to the examination are fulfilled by the candidate.

3. How to apply for Registration?

a) While applying for registration, the Registration Form duly filled in should be sent to the DOEACC
Society with a photograph affixed thereon attested by a Gazetted Officer/Panchayat/Bank
Officer/Centre Manager of the institute where the candidate has undergone the accredited course. An
attested photocopy of the certificate of highest educational qualification attained by the candidate
should be attached. The registration fee for the level should also be sent through Demand Draft in
favour of DOEACC payable at Delhi.
b) Presently, the Registration Fee is charged at the following rates:
O Level - Rs.300/-
A Level - Rs.300/-
B Level - Rs.300/-
C Level - Rs.300/-
* Denotes mandatory charges for despatch of Students
Guide, List of Institutes (one time) and Newsletters for
one year from the date of Registration.

c) Other instructions to applications given in the Registration Forms should be strictly adhered to while
sending the Registration Form.

4. a) Submission of Registration Forms through Authorized Institutes.

Students from institutes running accredited courses can submit their examination application forms for
the next higher level in the next immediate examination on successful completion of all
modules/papers of the level by using the old registration number and paying the difference of
registration fee and charges for publication. The difference of registration fee and charges for
publications would be in addition to the requisite amount of examination fee and postal charges and
will have to be remitted through a separate demand draft. In such an event, the registration would be
automatically upgraded. This facility would be available only to the students of the institutes running
accredited courses.

b) Cut-off dates extended by one month for new students.

Registration Forms of newly admitted students of the institutes conducting accredited courses will be
accepted by the DOEACC Society up to one month beyond the normal cut-off dates, provided such
forms are duly sponsored by institutes conducting accredited courses and accompanied by a soft file
containing the data pertaining to the Registration Forms in the data structure provided by the DOEACC
Society.

5.a) Validity of Registration.

Once registered at a particular level, the registration is valid for ten consecutive examinations for O/A
levels and twelve consecutive examinations for B/C levels, reckoned from the specific examination as
indicated in the Registration Allocation Letter issued to the candidates.

b) It is advised that candidates may register themselves as early as possible without waiting for the
cut-off date.

c) Applications for registration for next level.

A candidate registered at one level, intending to register at another level, without clearing all
modules/papers of the former level, will have to remit the full registration fee and charges for
publications for the latter level along with a registration form duly filled in.

d) (i) Eligibility for obtaining a certificate when one applies for next level registration and
fail some modules of the previous level.
In case a candidate qualifies in certain modules/papers at a level and appears for the remaining
modules/papers at that level and pending the announcement of results, registers at higher level, in
anticipation of passing the lower level, the candidate will forfeit the chances of appearing in the
modules/papers in which the candidate is found unsuccessful at the lower level after declaration of
results. He/she will thus, not be eligible to get the certificate for that level.

(ii) Exemption for the common module/papers qualified at a particular level would not be extended at
the higher level in case the candidate get himself/herself registered at another level without qualifying
all modules/papers at the level at which he/she was initially registered.

6. Change of address.
a) Candidates should invariably inform the DOEACC Society in case there is a change of address, as
communications to the candidate will be to their addressed given in the Registration Forms. While
requesting for change in address, complete new address may be written in block capitals.

b) Personal addressed may be given instead of c/o institutions.

Tips for Examination Preparation:-

1- Study in groups is helpful for various subjects as it helps to develop

understanding.
2- Slow down and take deep breaths. The different areas can be broken down.
Each member of the group can take on an area that they feel most
comfortable with and prepare a study guide, hold tutoring sessions, or go
over the questions in those famous practice tests and explain the answers to
other members of the group.
3- Each member can pick their weakest area and prepare a study guide, take
the practice test books and find the most difficult questions and explain the
answers. This can help students overcome fears and even force them to take
a new look at that subject.
4- Study your subject syllabus. Read your subject syllabus carefully and see how
much percent you have already covered and have notes for them? Let’s say,
you have already covered 70% of syllabus and 30% is remaining. Try to get
notes for this 30% remaining syllabus, best way is to request your friends, if
they already have notes for remaining 30% and get them photo copied as this
is going to save your time and you can focus on reading and grasping these
notes.
5- Practice from sample papers. This gives you good idea of questions examiner
can ask in exams and pattern of questions. You can check how marks are
divided between different types of questions. Most of the time examiner
repeats few questions from sample or previous year question papers or ask
on same topic. This also gives you idea of important topics that examiner can
ask in question paper. Try to solve sample and previous year question papers
within given time, treat them as real exam. This practice run helps you to find
your weak points and gives you chance to improve them in advance.
6- Focus on important areas. If you think you don’t have enough time to cover
entire syllabus, calculate how much percent you can cover in next 2 months.
Focus on important areas of your syllabus.
7- Make your study plan. Create a schedule for next months of your study plan
and put it on your wall. Follow it and try to cover all subjects as much as you
can. At any point if you feel you are unable to follow your schedule or you are
ahead of schedule, review it and adjust it as soon as possible.
8- Review your notes and readings often, so the material is "fresh" in your mind.
9- The best way to study for exams is by finding a quiet environment. Reading
the material (that you need to study) out loud helps also.
10-Complete assignments and readings throughout the year.
11-Here are some tips: Take notes in class. After class, review the notes and/or
rewrite them within 24 hours if possible. Complete any assigned readings and
exercises. Arrive at class early and review last week's notes. Several weeks
before the exam, schedule extra hours of study time. Divide the material into
sections, and complete one section each week. Try to think up questions
about the material. Have a friend or relative quiz you on the material. Once
you are sure you know a certain section of the material, cross it off your
notes and continue to study your weaker areas.
12-Dedicate at least a week before examination getting plenty of rest, eating
right, and staying properly hydrated. Eat a healthy meal before the test
starts. Relax and be confident. Be sure to get at least 8 hours of sleep the
night before the test, and eat a balanced, high-protein meal. Teenagers need
10-12 hours of sleep in order to be really alert, and a high-protein meal will
last longer than a carbohydrate one.
13-Study skills: READ over all of your notes and material. MAYBE get someone to
Quiz you Look on the NET for online tests and worksheets, or for a review of
the skills
14-Try to visualize what you are reading (stories, characters, etc.) and try to
associate numbers with figures, objects, etc.
15-Make quizes and tests for yourself. Read over your material and pretend you
are the teacher - what questions would you ask on the test? If you do this
right, often you will find questions you made very similar to actual test
questions.
16-Studying always helps, instead of cramming in a surplus of infomation in one
night or a period before the big test. Just make sure you get a lot of sleep
before the test. Make goals and if you can meet them, reward yourself for the
hard work. When your sitting for the test, just take a few deep breaths to
calm yourself down.
17-Sleep is always important, but sleeping is like studying. You need to do both
consistently, without tipping the balance one way or the other. This is
extremely difficult because most of us have a strong inclination to sleep
rather than study. If you have been sleeping through class, consider large
amounts of study rather than catching up on sleep. Likewise, if you've been
studying consistently, you will benefit much more from sleeping than
studying. Go into the test with a clear mind, and it will be much easier.
18-Before the Test: Try to guess what type of material will be on the test. To do
this, pay attention to any study guides the teacher gives out. Take note of
anything the teacher seems to emphasizing particularly. Make up possible
questions based on this information. Then see if you can answer those
questions. Study every day, not just the night before the test! Instead of
cramming, be sure to get enough sleep that night, and eat a healthy
breakfast to give you energy. Relax before the test - do some deep breathing
and stretching exercises.
19-During the Test: read everything carefully! Be sure you understand what is
being asked - raise your hand and ask the teacher if you do not understand
what any question is asking. If you really have no idea about a question, then
skip that one and try again later if you have time. Here are some specific tips
for different tests.
20-Multiple Choice - first read all the choices for the question. There are usually
one or two that are obviously wrong - cross out any answer(s) that you are
sure will not be the answer. You will be more likely to get the question right
now, even if you have to guess. Think about each answer carefully - some
might be worded in "tricky" ways so that they sound correct at first, but are
wrong once you read carefully. Think about any answers that are totally
unfamiliar to you - they might be the wrong ones. Also think about any
answers where the grammar doesn't match that of the question for the same
reason. In "All of the Above" questions, if you know that even two of the
choices are correct, then "all of the above" is probably the right answer. If
two of the answers seem to be exact opposites, then one of the might be the
correct answer. Watch for questions that state "everything EXCEPT this is
true" - in this case, they are asking you to find one false statement in a set of
true ones - check out the True/False tips for more hints with this one!
21-True/False - in order to be marked true, every single part of the sentence
must be true - if you find even one false part, then the answer is false. If a
sentence has some sort of negative, like "Reading is not one of the three
basic types of learning," then drop the negative part and decide if the
sentence would be true without it - if "Reading is one of the three basic types
of learning" is true, then the sentence with the negative is a false sentence.
Watch for modifying words like "most," "many," or "sometimes" - these words
might make a false statement into a true one, such as changing "All dogs live
in families with children" to "Many dogs live in families with children."
22-Word Problems - read through the question first to be sure you understand
exactly what is being asked. Underline anything that seems to be information
you will need for the problem. Jot down all the numbers, symbols, whatever
that you have found. There should now be a clear mathematical formula or
pathway for you - if you can't see what is needed, skip the question and come
back to it later.
23-After the Test: don't just jump up and leave, or put your head on your desk
for a nap! Read over any questions you had trouble with, and try them again
Check your spelling and grammar, Double-check your math, If there is time,
read over all of your answers - but only change one if you are absolutely
positive that you made a mistake the first time!
24-Post-Test Follow-Up: once you have your grade, go over the test to see where
you did well and where you did poorly. Keep your old test papers to help you
study. If you have trouble with a particular kind of test, practice those sorts
of questions in between your regular tests. Here are some online related links
to help!
