velopment
was
begun
in
1.ugust,
1944,
duo
to
the
obso-
lescence
of
the
!,LI5l
light
tank
in
which
an
earlier
mechanized
flame
thrower
had
bocn
installed.
This
mechanized flame
thrower
was
placed
in
production,
and
620
units
were
on
order-
at
the
cnd
of
the
war.
Following
V-J day,
this
order
was
reduced
to
150
units.
Seventeen
of
these
units,
accompanied
by
one
of
the
engineers
from
theStmudard
Oil
Development
Co..,were
sent
to
the
Pacificin
Juno,1945,
butthey
arrived.too
late foraction."
