DEFINING FITNESS
Physical fitness is to the human body what fine tuning is to an engine. Itenables us to perform up to our potential. Fitness can be described as acondition that helps us look, feel and do our best. More specifically, it is:"The ability to perform daily tasks vigorously and alertly, with energy leftover for enjoying leisure-time activities and meeting emergency demands.It is the ability to endure, to bear up, to withstand stress, to carry on incircumstances where an unfit person could not continue, and is a majorbasis for good health and well-being."Physical fitness involves the performance of the heart and lungs, and themuscles of the body. And, since what we do with our bodies also affectswhat we can do with our minds, fitness influences to some degreequalities such as mental alertness and emotional stability.As you undertake your fitness program, it's important to remember thatfitness is an individual quality that varies from person to person. It isinfluenced by age, sex, heredity, personal habits, exercise and eatingpractices. You can't do anything about the first three factors. However, itis within your power to change and improve the others where needed.
 
WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF PHYSICALFITNESS AND ITS COMPONENTS?
We are surrounding by media that constantly projects and image of idealweight. The principals of the
5 components of physical fitness
shouldbe turned towards
fat loss
for good health rather than the obsession overtotal weight. Fat control can be efficiently done with a commitment toregular structured exercise that will develop the
5 components of physical fitness.
 The health related physical skills each contribute to a healthy quality of life. Optimal fitness is reflected in the a persons ability to cope well withdaily life as actively fit individuals will develop a resistance to hypokineticdiseases such as obesity, heart failure and diabetes which are physicalconditions associated to inactivity and idle lifestyles.
Optimal physicalfitness
is a combination of lifestyle, nutrition, habits, but it cannot bereached without an appropriate level of physical activity.
