Cellular Respiration

Cellular respiration is the process of oxidizing food molecules. The energy produced (ATP) is used by
all energy using activities of the cell.

Mitochondria function in the conversion of potential energy of food molecules into ATP.

Glycolysis is the process of glucose breaking down into pyruvic acid.

Krebs cycle refers to a series of chemical reactions in all cells that use oxygen as part of their
respiration process. The cycle produces carbon dioxide and a compound rich in energy (ATP). The
chemical provides cells with the energy to absorb proteins from amino acids, and to replicate DNA.
ATP is usually derived from the breakdown of glucose, fats and proteins. Glucose can pass through a
membrane which makes it easy to spread throughout the body.

Electron Transport Chain refers to the transport of electrons throughout a chain. The molecules
necessary to collect and build energy (ATP) are transported down the chain as those that aren't need are
passed through.
