he New Mexico Department of Game andFish manages 11 resident upland gamespecies including quail, pheasant, bluegrouse and squirrel.The Department also manages 36 migratoryspecies including waterfowl (ducks and geese)and other migratory birds including sandhillcrane, coot, common moorhen, sora, Virginiarail, snipe, dove and band-tailed pigeon.Both upland game and migratory birds areconsidered "small game".

Two Application Deadlines for SpecialPermit Bird Hunts
The application deadline for all special permitsandhill crane hunts and youth waterfowl huntsat Bernardo WMA is
Wednesday, Sept. 8

Online application must be made before 5 p.m.on the deadline day.The application deadline for all Bernardo WMAlight goose special permit hunts, youth-onlylight goose hunt and special permit pheasanthunts is
Wednesday, Nov. 3.
Onlineapplication must be made before 5 p.m. on thedeadline day.
Residents pay a $10 application fee whilenonresidents pay a $27 application fee.
Season Dates Adjusted
Season dates have been adjusted for thenew calendar year. All dates are 2010 unlessindicated.
Additional Squirrel Species
Squirrel species available to hunt include: Abert's, Arizona gray squirrel, fox squirrel,Eastern gray squirrel and red squirrel.
GS-1E Eliminated
The Experimental Grouse/Squirrel Zone 1 hasbeen eliminated.
