"oN _JESUS* BOSOM. No 7
John was the tranquil one anong the disciples on that last night.
John nly spoke three times (as recorded) in the Gospels. ven when
he writes his Gospel he never nanes himself, but hides under the
Tovely Sisgiise, "that other disciple whom Jesus loved". Yet on that
Jest night it ie John whom ve see more distinctly than any other
of the twelve (excepting boasting Peter, or the traitor Judas.)
John was the tranguil one at the table. He took no part in the
Gispute over rank in Christ's kingdom. Why showld he, when his head
as on the Master's breast? He vas not boasting like Peter. He was
Int asking troubled questions like Philip. All these matters and
questions he left to Jesus, as he leaned upon Jesus! breast.
Keep your eye ra Jona. He is the one to watch and to imitate.
John aia not doubt that nignt - because he leaned on Jesus’ bosom.
He heard the words of Jesus about betrayal, separation, death; but
with his head on Jesus's bosom he knew all'would be well. Perhaps
That ie the reason that he alone renembered those wonderful words,
“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in Mo”
John dida't flee that night when tho traitor and his band struck their
blow in the garden. He went with Jesus to Gethsenane, and into the
court nf Cataphas, and no doubt to Pilate's court; and then to
Galvary, where he received that lest charga from Jesus, "Behold, thy
nother". No, nin didn't flee that night. He had no fear, for he
was leaning nn Jesus’ bosom, and perfect love casts nut fear.
Sades betrayed Joous, and went out, and it was night. Peter cursed
Hin, and denied Hin before Hie enemies, and then went out and wept
bitterly. But John didn't go out. There was no night for him. He
Icaned o& Jesus’ bosom, and there "shall be no night there".
John leaned on Jesus’ bosnm at the supper. There is room far you, too,
Brother, Sister. Come, Lean on Jesus's boson.
Are there gloomy doubis which rise like clouds to hide the sun? Then
ean on gesus" Yosom. Zo there anxiety for tomorrow? Then lean on
Jesus’ breast, and "iet not your heart be troubled". Do grief and
Sorrow weigh you down? Then lean on Jesus breest, and take i% to the
Tord in prayer. Are there wounds that rankle in your heart? Then
fnrget then, and forgive the younder ~ and lean on Jesus! breast.
